Wedding Cake Trends for 2015-16 from Little Cake Cupboard

As well as preparing for Cwtchfest and spending most of her time baking DELICIOUS wedding cakes (I have tried them, they really are amazing!) Rachel from the Little Cake Cupboard has taken some time to share some of the trends for 2015-16 to give you some inspiration. Be warned, this post will probably make you hungry.

Cake trends are moving very quickly at the moment but the ‘rustic look’ is still huge and especially popular with barn and country weddings.  Our rustic cakes incorporate engraved wood textured icing, wrappings of twine and hessian and clusters of gorgeous delicate sugar wildflowers to soften the design.  A super modern take on ‘rustic’ for the bold bride is incorporating a black tier in the form of a chalkboard!

Metallic silver and gold tiers are also a big trend for 2015. We love to accompany these with a single, bold, statements flower such a open peony or a statement rose.

Another new bold trend is graphic prints; chevrons or horizontal stripes mixed with metallic. Were also going to have lots of fun incorporating typography into some cakes later this year!

Ombre colours are also very popular for 2015  – 16 weddings and these are featured heavily in our new collection of cakes. Our new ‘Watercolour Ombre’ cake is a favourite and we’ve added a touch of metallic bronze to make our berries sparkle too!

Some brides are choosing to move away from floral and coloured cakes altogether and just have a tall, textured beauty! There are so many beautiful effects that can be achieved with icing; ruffles, waves, rosettes, lace textures and embossing, the possibilities for an original cake design are endless.

Flavour trends are moving quickly too. Wedding Cakes made entirely from fruit cakes are becoming a thing of the past. Brides and grooms are looking for more unique and interesting flavour combinations such as our Banoffee, Chocolate with salted caramel or raspberry ripple, which are all available to sample at our regular Taster Events.

Our Tips for Brides

  • Take as many visuals as possible to your design consultation. In order for your cake to be truly original it’s important to come armed with lots of inspiration. Images of your chosen flowers, dress, venue decoration, stationary are all really useful to help your cake designer understand your wedding concept and design you a bespoke artisan cake.
  • Always sample the flavours – the taste of the cake is as equally important as a beautiful design! Here at Little Cake Cupboard we invite all our Brides and Grooms to attend our regular ‘Taster Days’ to try all of our flavours and choose their favourites. If you can choose more than one flavour so there will be something all your guest will like.
  • Order your wedding cake well in advance.  Little Cake Cupboard takes bookings up to 2 years in advance and fill up very quickly for popular Spring/Summer dates.
