Jessica and Rickie’s Relaxed Country Wedding By Maria Farrelly

 Morning you lovely lot!

We have such a treat for your eyes today. This outstanding, relaxed country wedding in Pembrokeshire was photographed by one of Wales’ leading wedding photographers, the super talented Maria Farrelly (who is also the founder of Cwtch The Bride and photographed my own wedding as well, She rocks!).

I love all the homemade and personal details of this wedding and I think this will be a huge inspiration to you all. ~ Kate.

maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer064maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer049How would you describe your wedding theme?

Relaxed country vibe with a nod to festivals!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer033maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer071maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer110What was your favourite part of your wedding?

Tough question! Actually probably the one thing I didn’t plan, the impromptu game of cricket. That and the silent disco at midnight.maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer100maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer123

Decoration wise I loved the flower chandelier our very talented florist Linda from The Woodland Farm created. I thought she’d run for the hills when I started describing it but she was really up for the challenge.

I should probably say these all come after marrying my husband!!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer030

Tell us about your Wedding Dress

My dress was actually the very first I tried on! I love it. Its the Lillie Mae by Charlotte Balbier. I wanted something a little boho but also traditional. I went to Whitebride in Narberth with my Mum and Aunty. All the lovely things I’d heard about Sally White from my friends was spot on. She was a fountain of life hacks beyond wedding attire!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer068maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer016maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer002

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why?

I had three bridesmaids. Kirsty and I have been friends since forever. We lived a few doors apart growing up and shared the same obsession with horses. Which also ties me and Rach together. Sian’s very nearly my sister. She’s set to marry my brother next June. I can’t wait. Their two sons Hewi (three) and Finley (14 months) were my strapping pageboys and my niece Alexia (eight) was my mini me flower girl.

maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer018

The best man was Matthew, Rickie’s best friend since they were tots and the reason Rickie and I first met.maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer063

Why did you choose your venue?

The venue is less than three miles from our home and we often walk our dog there. Its not actually a wedding venue but we contacted the County Council and they were happy for us to use it provided we sorted the licences. Its such a beautiful setting. There’s so many established flowers and plants it changes drastically every month. I think they plan to use it as a wedding venue more now.

We chose a yurt as we wanted to keep the rustic feel and to still be light and airy. We hired this from Herf Yurts in Chepstow.maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer070maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer124

Scolton Manor has so many beautiful enormous old trees so we made a feature of one, now called “the disco tree”. We rigged a disco ball and hung lampshades from the branches – easier said than done. Big thanks to the ushers for this! We then had a silent disco under the tree at midnight. So much fun!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer044

Tell us about your photographer

We were so lucky to have Maria Farrelly shoot our wedding. I can’t recommend her enough. She maintained a ridiculous level of excitement for 14 hours! And yet gets people to jump when she’s says. so no waiting around for hours posing. From the “sneak peek” of photos we’ve seen so far we’re blown away. I love them.maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer046maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer097maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer061

How did the proposal happen?

Rickie and I met at a festival in 2011 and have been to lots together since. We love them! So naturally Rickie popped the question at Glastonbury last year. It was such a lovely setting. We had so many strangers jumping on us and congratulating us and then where better to celebrate than straight to the Pyramid Stage with the bottle of bubbly Rickie had smuggled in!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer066

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share?

A lot of the wedding was DIY. I loved the horse shoes sprayed in glitter. We made a few wooden signs. I realised after the first one I should’ve sanded the surface I wanted to paint to stop the paint running. This is probably common sense mind!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer045

What was your first dance & why?

Stereophonics – You sexy thing. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, its Welsh and Kelly’s voice is sexy as hell!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer104

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently?

Honestly… no. Maybe not to leave my beautiful bouquet at the alter in the Church!maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer067Do you have any advice for future couples?

Enjoy the planning and all the creativity because its over before you know it.maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer050What’s the best piece of marriage advice you received?

To set aside time during the day with just you and your partner. Rickie and I stole a few minutes outside the church before the confetti throw and before we were announced to the wedding breakfast.maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer037

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding?

I’ve since realised planning your wedding is a celebration of you as a couple. So every detail has a little nod to your personalities and history together. I’m soppy at heart so loved that. Seeing everything come together the day before the wedding was such a high.maria_farrelly_cardiff_wedding_ photographer048

Real Wedding: Danny & Becky’s Vintage Garden Wedding in Pembrokeshire by Owen Howells

Today’s wedding was photographed by Owen Howells on the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast. Danny and Becky planned an outdoorsy, vintage garden themed wedding and held their reception at Gellifawr Country House which matched their theme perfectly. Here is Becky to tell us all about it.

Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-123

What was your budget?  We didn’t really have a budget, we started planning 2 years ago and just paid for things as we went along! We have avoided sitting down and adding up the total cost as we predict we are in double figures! Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-286

How would you describe your wedding theme? Vintage garden was the theme I had in my mind. Me and Danny are both ‘outdoorsy’ people so knew we wanted to include our love of outdoors in the wedding…along with Danny’s love for surfing! Working in fashion I have a passion for vintage and Art Deco style so it all came together in one big mix! I never actually sat down and put it all together to see in advance. So seeing it on the morning of the wedding all tie together I was overwhelmed with happiness. Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-117 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-198 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-202

What was your favourite part of your wedding? We both agree that the ceremony was our favourite part. It was relaxed and full of happiness! Plenty of laughs and tears! We had some lovely readings from close friends and one of my best friends Rhiannon Davies sang a acoustic version of ‘Kiss the Girl’ from The Little Mermaid….my favourite Disney film growing up! Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-056 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-057 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-079 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-074

Tell us about your Wedding Dress For some reason I always knew I wanted a Jenny Packham dress. I loved the elegant shapes and understated beauty of her dresses. White Bride in Narberth were holding a Jenny Packham trunk show and I knew I had to go along. I went there with my heart set on a completely different design. However when I tried it on I was disappointed as I felt it didn’t suit me. I saw the intricate beading of Daphne and instantly fell in love. When I tried it on, it fitted me perfectly and I knew it was the gown for me! I actually purchased it almost 2 years before the actual wedding! When I tried it on again a month before I loved it even more than than before. I was just so in love with the dress!Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-008 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-294 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-296 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-295

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? Our bridesmaids, best man and ushers were our oldest and best friends. We were so lucky to have them all there to be involved in our big day. I was so lucky to have the four girls I have grown up with as my bridesmaids. Each one of them are different and special to me in there own ways! I loved spending the morning with them getting ready. Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-006 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-015 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-039 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-158

Why did you choose your venue? Gellifawr was set in such a pretty countryside location, and the interior was very much to our taste. The staff were fantastic and the afternoon tea and evening BBQ served was amazing! Everyone keeps saying how good the food was! Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-199 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-285 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-305

Tell us about your photographer Owen Howells was recommended to is by a lot of people. Photography is very important to both of us, and of all the photographers we looked at he stood out to us as the best. His style was perfect! Our wedding photos are amazing, we literally couldn’t be happier. It documents the wedding like you were there! When we saw the slide show we literally felt like we were reliving our wedding day all over again! Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-001 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-027 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-036 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-105 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-114 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-126

How did the proposal happen? Danny planned a very romantic treasure hunt which he actually secretly filmed! You can actually watch the proposal here. It was so romantic and I was so overwhelmed by how much planning he put into the proposal.
We played the proposal at the wedding reception, not everyone had seen it, so it was a lovely emotional moment sharing it with everyone. Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-133

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? We tried to do as much DIY as possible! I loved the idea of serving little bottle of gin for our favours…as we are both partial to a bit of gin! My mum and dad had sloes growing in their garden. So we decided to brew our own sloe gin! My mum prepared it almost a year before. So the final outcome was pretty potent!! My dad also cut up an oak tree in their garden for the table pieces which added to the garden theme. My auntie and uncle did my flowers for the venue and church. They turned out even better than I could ever imagine and I was so grateful. I loved my family being involved.

What was your first dance & why? We had our first dance to Ben Howard Only Love. We have both seen Ben Howard together in Newquay and always listen to him in and around our home. Especially when I was pregnant! The words to Only Love are super meaning full to us and dancing along to it with our little boy Todd was perfect. Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-275 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-316

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? I honestly can’t think of changing a thing. As cheesy as it sounds we had the best day of our lives. It was my dream wedding. Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-113 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-132

Do you have any advice for future couples? Enjoy it, it goes so quickly. It’s the advice I got given by everyone…but it really does! Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-013 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-310

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? Seeing what were just small ideas tie together and become our wedding day, from choosing our little boys wedding outfit to tying the bunting up at Gellifawr with my bridesmaids the evening…we really enjoyed every process! Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-010 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-014 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-047 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-102 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-306 Danny & Rebecca - Photography by Owen Howells-304

Real Wedding: Amy & Neilson’s Country Wedding by Owen Howells

Neilson & Amy got married at their parish church in Pembrokeshire and held their country wedding reception at Amy’s home farm on the 2nd of August 2013, we asked Amy some questions about the big day. Owen Howells captured these stunning photographs.

nacole-139

How would you describe your wedding theme? Our wedding theme was country/rustic as the reception was held in the garden on our family dairy farm. The wedding ceremony was held in our local parish church in the village of Ambleston, we travelled the two miles back to the farm on the back of a trailer decorated with hay bales and bunting towed by our friend’s landrover. While we wanted quite a traditional wedding we didn’t want anything too formal and most of all we wanted our guests to have fun. We set up games on the lawn, had space hoppers and as Neilson is wicket keeper for his local cricket team Cresselly, we also played cricket which was good entertainment as well as producing some great photographs. Our sheepdog Max kept the children entertained by playing ball with them all day long. We had some photographs of just the two of us taken in a cornfield overlooking the farm which was fun and fitted in well with our theme. The marquee was decorated with trees, one of which was our ‘wishing tree’ guests hung their messages on it and we have now planted it in our garden at our cottage. We had pom poms suspended from the roof of the marquee, bales of hay and we had terracotta plant pots filled with country flowers and ears of corn. Our table names were terms used in cricket such as ‘Howzat’ and ‘Cow Corner.’ nacole-013 nacole-135 nacole-208

What was your favourite part of your wedding? We enjoyed every part of our wedding day, it’s difficult to pick out one particular moment, it was a beautiful sunny day and from getting ready in the morning to walking down the isle with my dad (a bit too eagerly towards Neilson!) and partying the night away in the evening with family and friends. It was just an amazing day! nacole-026 nacole-059 nacole-348

Tell us about your Wedding Dress I wanted to make the most of looking for my dream dress. I went to a number of bridal shops, a few in Cardiff one of which was quite a traumatic experience! I must have tried on at least twenty dresses which I only had on for a few seconds and then was whisked back into the changing room to try another. By the end of the visit everything was a blur and I could hardly remember one! I had decided to leave our local bridal boutique, White Bride in Narberth until last. My sister-in-law Victoria had bought her dress there the year before and recommended Sally. There was a wonderful selection of gorgeous dresses, the designers all had something different to offer. I did have an idea of what I thought my dream dress would be like but it was a good idea to try on all sorts of styles to be sure of choosing the perfect dress. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and although I loved many of the dresses, I knew as soon as I tried on ‘the one.’ My dress was called ‘Etta’ and designed by the wonderful Charlotte Balbier. A simple strapless fitted dress in a beautiful fabric with a slight sheen to it. It had covered buttons all the way down the back of the dress and along the short train. There was a pretty lace top with a ‘V’ back which I took off for the evening reception and added a Sassi Holford sash. It gave the dress a completely different look and was perfect for dancing! I also chose a delicate pretty headband which complemented the lace design on my dress and wonderfully comfortable ‘Rachel Simpson’ shoes. nacole-032 nacole-033

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? Picking our bridesmaids and best man was an easy decision for us. I had five bridesmaids, my sister-in-law, Victoria, our cousins Sara and Louisa and two best friends, Lauren and Becky. I couldn’t have imaged the day without them by my side….I didn’t want to make a decision that I would later regret so I made sure I had exactly who I wanted. They were amazing leading up to the big day and organised two fantastic hen dos!!
Neilson chose his brother Marc to be his best man. They have always been very close growing up, he organised the stag do to Edinburgh as well as making a great speech on the day. nacole-052 nacole-055nacole-298

Why did you choose your venue? I had always wanted to have my wedding reception at home on the farm, it was quite a lot of work for my family getting everything ready but they are a hard working practical lot and it was well worth it. It was so personal and special to us and Mum got some jobs done in the garden that she had wanted to do for years! We hired a marquee from my cousin George’s company called ‘Blue Sky’ who supplied a beautiful traditional pole marquee and gave us fantastic service; nothing was too much trouble or a problem. Keeping it in the family my cousin Lucy Harvey who is a trained florist with brilliant ideas decorated the marquee and made our gorgeous bouquets.  nacole-197 nacole-278

How did the proposal happen? We had known each other for about two and a half years, our first date was the first time we met (long story!) It was the day of my 24th Birthday and I certainly was not expecting a proposal as Neilson had said he would never propose on birthdays or Christmas as it was too obvious! He had told me that I had to be at his house at 11 am and I wasn’t to be late (which I usually was!) I then thought maybe he had arranged a spa day, which I love, or I had been hinting for a puppy for sometime, so I thought perhaps my persistence had paid off. When I arrived at his house he gave me a birthday card and a present. The card had a puppy on the front of it and when I opened my present, it was a dog lead and a bowl. I was so excited but checked that he had mentioned it to my parents as we were both living at home at the time and wanted to make sure they wouldn’t mind the new addition to the family! He replied “Don’t worry about it.” He then blindfolded me and said that we were going to go and choose a puppy, I was so excited that I didn’t think to ask why I had to wear a blindfold?!
It was only a short drive and when we arrived he led me by the hand with me still holding onto my lead! I heard a little child ask his mum “What are they doing Mummy?” I had no idea where I was, we must have looked a bit strange! Neilson then took me through what felt like a hedge and then said I could take my blind fold off. I took it off slowly and was greeted with a beautiful view of Carew Castle. I turned around thinking where’s the puppy? But instead found Neilson on one knee…I was so shocked, I can’t describe the feeling really, I was overjoyed when he asked me to marry him. I soon forgot the puppy!! He then poured us a glass of champagne each with strawberries….I couldn’t believe it, it was the best feeling ever! The ring he had proposed with was a ‘dummy’ as he had wanted us to choose the engagement ring together so we got back in the car and headed off to Cardiff. I then contacted my parents, who were at the local County Show, my dad knew about the proposal as Neilson had asked his permission the day before but he hadn’t told my Mum so she had a bit of a shock! We then had to tell Neilson’s parents quickly as we knew our news would quickly circulate in the show! That night I did not sleep a wink and kept looking at my engagement ring…what an amazing feeling! nacole-145 nacole-156 nacole-158

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? We had wanted to make the most of the build up to the wedding and as I enjoy being creative thought it would be a good idea to make as much as possible ourselves which would also help with the overall cost. My Mum and I spent many hours looking through wedding magazines and gathering ideas from the internet. We made all our wedding stationery using ivory card, ribbon and lace, Neilson’s Mum Jan made jam and marmalade in small jars for the wedding favours, we covered the lids in chintzy fabrics tied with raffia and printed our own labels. We made pom poms to decorate the marquee buying coloured tissue paper in bulk from the internet and then we followed a tutorial video on how to make them. We also collected jam jars and decorated them with lace and ribbons; we put tea lights in them and hung them in the trees in the marquee and around the garden. We had a few Sunday afternoons when the bridesmaids would come to our house and put everything together. It made our day more personal was great fun, saved a considerable amount of money and it was very satisfying to see everything come together. nacole-168 nacole-173nacole-177

What was your first dance & why? Our first dance was “Marry you” by Bruno Mars which our band Swing Shift sang beautifully. They changed a few of the words to more appropriate lyrics e.g “…It’s a beautiful night, let’s look for something dumb to do” was altered to “….fun to do!”
We both like a bit of fun and are not that soppy so felt a more up beat song was most suited to us. The first dance can be quite awkward so we made sure we had a few spins and encouraged guests to join us on the dance floor half way through. nacole-337

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? I can honestly say that there is not one thing we would have changed…the day was truly amazing! We were very lucky that everything ran smoothly and there are no disaster stories to tell! nacole-293 nacole-328

Do you have any advice for future couples? Our advice would be to make sure you are organised! We had a year to plan our wedding and that was about right I think. A friend gave me a wedding planning book which gave a month by month list of things to do which I found useful, I listed contact numbers etc and wrote down never ending lists of ‘things to do.’ It is surprising how quickly the months pass by and you do not want to be rushing around feeling stressed at the last minute.
Make sure your wedding day is ‘YOUR’ day. Include things that are personal to both of you. Have fun and don’t worry…it will all be OK!!
I have to mention Owen Howells our photographer who was extremely calm on the day which is exactly what a bride needs, especially on the morning of the wedding. He took gorgeous pictures and was professional from start to finish. Our advice would be to definitely not skimp on photographs as our day has been captured so wonderfully. Consider where your photographs are going to be taken and if you can think of some action shots then even better (we had space hoppers, a swing at the bottom of the garden and played cricket.). Also if you can, hire a videographer. We used Ben Walton who produces excellent professional films. Good music for the evening party is important; we hired a swing band called ‘Swingshift’ from Swansea. In between their three playing slots we had downloaded our own ‘playlist’ which we played through their amplifying system saving the cost of hiring a separate disco and we were able to choose every track. The dance floor was full all night long! nacole-359

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you received? The one thing that everyone kept telling us was that the day will fly by and that was so true! We were advised to take a moment for ourselves away from everyone to really savour the experience as a couple. So on the day we made sure we did just that. We consciously took time out to register what was actually happening.

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? I really enjoyed thinking of ways to make our wedding unique. Mum and I went to one wedding fayre, which was enough, we spent our time gathering lots of information and it was great for ideas.
All our family and friends coming together to help with the build up was lovely.
The highlight though was choosing the dress! I loved going off for day trips with my mum, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and Nan and trying on all the different dresses…wonderful memories of a very special time. nacole-122 nacole-132 nacole-145 nacole-163 nacole-365

Real Wedding: Christina & Jonathan’s Pembrokeshire Wedding by O&C Photography

Happy Friday Cwtchers, I have a gorgeous real wedding for you today brought to us by bride Christina and photographed by O&C Photography. When I first read Christina’s email it brought a tear (well, more than one!) to my eye, here is Christina with her story and how they came to plan it all in just 5 months!

0401-Jon and Christina

Jonathan and I got engaged on October 27th, 2012.  About a month later, we decided that we would get married on 23rd of May 2015, giving us plenty of time to save and plan our day.  But at the beginning of this year, my Dad fell poorly with cancer and he wasn’t given a very good prognosis, so on the 6th of February this year, we officially changed the date to July 5th THIS YEAR! That very morning I contacted Sally from White Bride in Narberth and she fitted us in for an appointment that afternoon!  We all lived and breathed the wedding for the 5 months leading up to it and it was a welcome distraction from the hell of the reality we have all had to face. Dad spent the 5 months, between rounds of chemotherapy, occupying himself with finishing the renovation of his lorry, as he was determined that at any cost he would be taking me to church in his pride and joy! It was a great project aside from the wedding, which we all got involved with in the end to get it ready to Dad’s pristine standard.

Everything that happened in the planning, even down to choosing my dress, was all by chance; everything was just meant to be.
It was literally the most perfect day. We put so much thought and effort into every tiny detail of the day, to make sure it reflected our personalities and I think we managed to achieve that!!
To top it all off, Dad has responded really well to his treatment and is doing well.

We asked Christina some questions about the big day:

What was your budget? (If you feel comfortable sharing this) We started out with a rough budget in mind.  However, once we changed the date of the wedding, as it wasn’t far away we had to just go with what was available, and everything we chose was perfect, but we had to spend a little more in certain areas than we had hoped.  As long as we could afford the things that we wanted, we went ahead with them as we didn’t want to have any regrets.

How would you describe your wedding theme? I think ‘Rustic Country Garden’ is probably the best way to describe it.  We had lots of hessian, bunting, rustic buckets, lanterns, logs and loads of gorgeous flowers!  We also had a backdrop with a fireplace behind the top table which just finished off the room.  We then found a perfect wicker heart which fitted beautifully above the fireplace to complete the backdrop.  We hired chairs for the day too, as the chairs in the venue didn’t really help to create what we had in mind. They made a huge difference to the whole feel of the room.

What was your favourite part of your wedding? I know everyone probably says the same thing – but every second of it! Obviously the most important part of the day for us was where we got to say our vows and the moment we became Mr & Mrs.

0256-Jon and Christina

One of the best bits for me was going to the church with Dad in his lorry and getting to walk down the aisle with him. It was great for us all that he was feeling so well on the day, which meant he could enjoy it as much as we would.  We were blessed that we got to share our day with him.

0212-Jon and Christina 0213-Jon and Christina 0216-Jon and Christina 0223-Jon and Christina

The whole day was everything we imagined and so much more, if I could relive the day I would make more of an effort to take everything in, as there are parts of the day that are a bit of a blur as there was so much going on! We were the last to leave our reception, I had tears in my eyes that the day was all over, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Tell us about your Wedding Dress It was pure chance that I ended up with my dress.  We visited White Bride for a second time and there was a dress hanging on the end of the rail which we hadn’t seen before.  Sally had got it in for somebody else to try.  It had arrived a few hours before we got in the shop and was being sent back 3 days later.  I tried it on and it was just meant to be! We left the shop that day having ordered my dress – Sassi Holford’s Ruby! Everything about it was just beautiful and perfect for me.

Sally was amazing and was so accommodating, going into White Bride was like a haven where I was the most important thing and nothing else mattered.  She even came to our house to dress me on the morning of the wedding, as mum was struggling to do up the dainty buttons. She was great from start to finish.

0055-Jon and Christina

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? It was an easy choice for us both as we have both always been so close to our friends.  Jon chose two of his oldest friends to be joint best men, as he couldn’t choose between them.  They did a fantastic job on the day, making sure that everything ran smoothly.  I had my sister, Jon’s sister, my younger cousin and two old friends as bridesmaids, as well as two of my best boy friends, who were my bridesmen.  Having grown up with them being such a big part of my life, I was determined that they were going to be a big part of our day.  They were a great support throughout the whole planning process and on the day. Jon’s niece was our flower girl and my cousin’s little boy was page boy. They did a perfect job of looking cute and were so well behaved all day.

0179-Jon and Christina 0351-Jon and Christina 0383-Jon and Christina0680-Jon and Christina

Why did you choose your venue? The venue we chose, Wolfscastle Country Hotel in Haverfordwest, was due to have a big revamp, adding an extension consisting of a garden room, whilst modernising their current function room.  The food there has always been notoriously good too and they have an excellent reputation.  We went to meet with them to discuss what we wanted for the day and that was it, we booked it there and then.  Their good reputation meant we didn’t have to worry about the running of things once we got to the reception venue.  The completed extension was also an amazing addition to the place, making it light, airy and spacious, perfect! I have to say the food, their service before and on the day was second to none.  We couldn’t fault it.

0689-Jon and Christina

How did the proposal happen? When we first started dating, Jon quite often would take me to different beaches around the Gower.  One day we went to Rhossili Bay and this was where we had our first kiss.  Little did I know at this point that this would be the place where he would propose to me 5 and a half years later! We decided to go off to Rhossili for the day one day.  When we got to the car park there was a charge to park, at this point Jon realised that neither of us had enough money on us to pay for it! I suggested that we go to another beach, taking money out on the way.  Jon was determined to scrape the money together – only afterwards I realised why!  So he counted the money out using 5ps and coppers.  Panic averted, we went down to the beach and after walking across we sat on this giant rock.  Jon was acting very strange and all of a sudden got down on one knee..at this point I didn’t know whether he was joking or not, but then I saw the ring box! Needless to say I immediately said yes! It was perfect, a truly sentimental place which will always hold a special place in our heart.

0426-Jon and Christina

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? I really wanted bunting, but I couldn’t find any in the colours that I liked.  I am really lucky to work with some really talented people, so when I expressed my frustration at not being able to find any suitable bunting, one of my friends suggested I make it and said she would help.  So, I found fabrics that were just right (although they cost a fortune!) and we spent four or five full days making 95m of bunting, with the help of two other work friends on two of the days.  We had our own little production line going. I now understand why bunting is so expensive to buy!

0473-Jon and Christina

To decorate the church windows we spent five months looking for quirky ornaments/decorations to put together so that each window had its’ own display.  Every time I saw something which I thought would look good, I got it and put it to one side.  Then one day we went down to the church and created a display for each window, even if I do say so myself, I think they all looked great!

I loved being able to get creative!

0258-Jon and Christina

What was your first dance & why? This was the most difficult decision of everything in the whole wedding! We had loads of songs which brought back lovely memories of when we first got together and lots of songs which held special memories for us both, but when we were choosing we couldn’t really find one where the words said what we wanted them to say.  We had to make a playlist for the videographers to include in our wedding video.  So we decided that it would be one of those songs. After much deliberation we eventually chose Ed Sheeran – Kiss Me, it says just enough, but is not overbearingly cheesy.

0775-Jon and Christina

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? One of Jon’s ushers, Liam, was unable to make the day, as we had changed the date with only five months notice, he wasn’t able to get the time off work at the last minute. If we could change anything, it would be that he could have made it.  But he sent a photo of himself at work, with a note for us both, which one of the best men read out to us all.  He made it in so many photographs thanks to the picture he sent!

Other than that, there isn’t a single thing I would change.  The day was absolutely perfect.

Do you have any advice for future couples? Be organised – I never thought we would plan a wedding in five months, but we did! Get a Pinterest board going, it was my go-to place for inspiration or whenever we needed to make a decision about something.

Keep track of what you spend or it could easily spiral out of control.

Pick your photographer wisely. Owen and Charis were great. They helped to make sure that everything ran smoothly, and most of the time you didn’t even notice they were there. To top it off, they are two of the most lovely people. The pictures they took captured every little detail. They are just beautiful. As there are two of them, you get lots more pictures!

Cheeky!

Cheeky!

Within reason, make sure you do what you want to do for your big day, don’t try and please other people.  It is your day so do what you want.  You will never please everyone!

Enjoy every second because it flies, everyone says that before you get married, but when the day comes, it goes so much quicker than you would ever imagine!

If anything goes wrong on your day, don’t let it spoil the best day of your life! Everything that happens, happens for a reason! We had organised a camper van to take the bridesmaids to the church, and a beetle to take Jon and I from the church to the reception venue.  Ten minutes before we were due to leave, someone mentioned that the camper hadn’t turned up yet.  The morning was so hectic that it hadn’t even crossed my mind.  I got a bad feeling, so rang the company (we had booked, paid for and received confirmation of the transport for the day).  They told me that they didn’t have a booking in our area for that day.  My heart stopped and I could feel my eyes filling up with tears – for all the wrong reasons! They realised they had misplaced our booking when transferring information from one diary to another.  I was furious at this point. My uncle was great at calming me down and helped me realise that there was nothing that we could do about it.  I was determined that these people were not going to ruin my day.  We sorted transport for the bridesmaids and mum to get to the church and off we went, albeit a bit late!  I went to church in my Dad’s renovated lorry, and this then meant that Jon and I would go from church to the reception in it too – it made Dad’s day! We had some lovely pictures with it later in the day and it was a huge talking point.  As much as we would have loved to have the transport we had chosen, it filled me with pride to be able to take our first journey as husband and wife in Dad’s lorry, which he had worked so hard to complete in time for the wedding, despite his ill health.

0728-Jon and Christina

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you received? Never go to sleep on an argument!

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? Under the circumstances, when we started to plan and arrange things it was done with a heavy heart, as we were still absorbing the bad news that we hadn’t long received. But as time went on and dad began responding to treatment, it became more exciting and enjoyable.

We loved being able to create something that reflected us. I loved getting the chance to be creative. Making the bunting was great! Putting all of the little ideas we had together to make this one big thing was quite special. I was overwhelmed at how well everything came together on the day. I couldn’t believe that we had created it all!

The best thing of all was getting to plan it all together, with our friends and family involved from start to finish.  It was an honour to chip in and help Dad complete the lorry in time too, even if it was just hanging the curtains and a bit of polishing.
