Featured Post: Victoria & Olivers Hensol Castle Wedding Film by Aurora

Good morning one and all!

A question we ask our Brides and Grooms for our ‘Real Weddings’ feature is ‘Is there anything you would change about your big day?’

Often the answer is ‘No, we wouldn’t change a thing’, but more and more, we are getting the answer, ‘We wish we had booked a videographer.’

25 years ago or so, a wedding video was often quite cheesy, with a mixture of still images and video, showcasing the day to the sound of the Peter Cetera’s ‘Glory of Love’ (actually, that song is epic!)

But lately, wedding films are incredible. With new awesome technology that I don’t even begin to try and understand, what you are left with is a beautiful cinema look, with emotive music and the most breathtaking result.

Aurora Wedding Films creates the most stunning films you will ever see.  Richard Shelton of Aurora has shot well over 300 films, throughout Wales and the rest of the UK, as well as destination weddings, and with 12 years experience, you’re guaranteed a wonderful result.

We have the pleasure of sharing one of Richard’s latest films, of Victoria and Olivers wedding, shot earlier this year.  So I will hand over to Richard himself to tell you all about it, before you feast your eyes on this delight – you’re going to need a tissue.

Its  exquisite…….

Victoria & Olivers Wedding Film by Aurora

After meeting whilst studying at Millfield School, Victoria and Oliver were married at Hensol Castle in June this year. What promised to be a warm summers day changed dramatically when the skies opened and we had some of the most torrential rain I’ve seen in years, just as Victoria arrived at the church in Cowbridge!

Luckily, it was just a short shower and the guests were treated to warm sunshine for the rest of the day at Hensol. They booked us after seeing one of their friends wedding films, which we shot in 2014. They were so pleased that they’d got one too and had a special ‘screening night’ at Victoria’s parents for all their family and friends.

I will be honest, I do cry at the drop of a hat, adverts, cardigan inside out, but I defy anyone to not shed a romantic slow tear down the cheek at this film! Beautiful Richard.  Just beautiful  x

Hannah from Rocksalt Photography has recently branched into filming as well. You may remember we showed you Ed and welsh bride Jo’s engagement shoot by Rocksalt Photography back last month. Well here you have a lovely little addition to see how it all worked out in the form of a rather lovely video, plus another sneaky look at Hannah’s work.

So without further ado, I will hand over to the gorgeous girl herself to tell you all about it……..

I never expected to fall in love with film making the way I have. Thank you so much to that cheeky pair who asked if I could film their wedding, I’ll be forever grateful.

How and when did you start the videography side of Rocksalt?

One of the best parts of being a wedding photographer is getting to know my clients and in a lot of cases having a friendship for life. So a lot of my couples feel that they can be a little bit cheeky and ask me anything ;)
Anyway when a couple asked if I could do a wedding film as well as their stills I recoiled into my chair and said ‘God no!’ Imagine the stress!
But I went away and thought, well, why not? I have a bit of film training, I wouldn’t need any new equipment so maybe I could give it a shot.
I went to see Camera Hannah for a chat, she has added film packages alongside her photography successfully and after having a good chat with her I decided that I would give it a go.

This wedding season I had done a few films, but my first was November 2015.
I arrived at the wedding with no plans to film, but thought why the hell not?….. and thats where it all started.

How would you describe your style?

I make short 4/5 minute films of your wedding. It’s great to see a film that marries up with the photography.  Everything just seems to fit.
My style, is unobtrusive – I’m there to capture your day. Not direct it.
I try to be as invisible as possible documenting those real moments – happy, fun and relaxed.
Yes, of course I pose a few things up to get those epic dramatic shots. They just have to be done!

What’s the best bit about being a part of the wedding industry?

I love being part of the wedding industry. I’ve met so many different talented and lovely people along the way and have formed strong business and social friendships! (the odd gin may have been consumed at a few ‘networking lunches’! )
The best thing though……(I know it sounds cheesy)…..My clients. I really am so blessed by the people I get to work with – you all ROCK!

Have you had any hairy moments?

Nothing major really…..(touch wood) I smashed a lens at a wedding once lying down on a stone beach, but I had a back up!

Have you noticed any emerging trends specific to your field emerging for 2016/2017?

Smoke bombs and drones seemed to have featured a lot this year……next year, I have had a couple enquire about me shooting their entire wedding on film -old skool! So maybe we’re going full circle!
Do you have any advice for couples choosing a videographer for their big day?
People seem to be more self conscious when being filmed, I totally understand! But believe me, just be yourselves and embrace it. You’re beautilicious.

Featured Vendor: Eightwood Studios

This week we have a beautiful wedding film brought to you by Eightwood Studios.

Nia & Philip got married in Tonypandy at Nia’s family’s local church.  Their reception was held at St Donat’s Castle and Eightwood were on hand to capture the day. Nia & Philip are both solicitors, having met at their firm’s pre-training team-building week Nia refused to give Philip her phone number saying she couldn’t remember it but he persisted through Facebook and it paid off! Philip surprised Nia on the day of the wedding by joining the band for one number as he is a keen drummer and was in a band as a teenager.

We asked Laura from Eightwood to tell us a little bit more about what they can offer.

Eight Wood Studios utilises their background in award-winning music video direction/production, photography, tour videography and children’s TV production to create artistic, reportage style wedding films with shallow depth of focus filming technique.

We are made up of Andy & Laura and provide UK & Destination coverage, focusing on South Wales and South-West England.

We always favour natural over posed and can’t think of anything worse than staging a moment or directing you on a day when you should just live it! We like to capture those precious moments when the couple (& guests!) don’t even realise the cameras are rolling.

We provide an extensive film package, providing couples with three lengths of finely edited films:

  1. The Feature Film (approx. 35-60 minutes of finely edited footage on top of full ceremony & speeches, totalling on average 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes)
  2. A re-edited Highlights Film with audio snippets (approx. 20-30 minutes)
  3. The Trailer (examples of which are on our website)

You are then given three copies on DVD and a free Blu-ray to future proof the couple’s film. We also provide a USB stick with computer & smart phone versions of the highlights & trailer as part of our packages.

Our principle from day one of our company has been ‘what would we want from a Wedding Videography package’, and it has been our goal to provide just that to our couples.

Thank you Laura! We hope you all enjoyed the video.
