Real Wedding: Joe and Carrianne’s Full of Love, Big Day

Its nearly the weekend!!!

And we have a gorgeous wedding to share. At one of my favourite venues, Christian Michaels shares his images of Carianne and Joe, having the most wonderful day!  And to top it off, Grandad sings, under a floral arch.

You’re going enjoy this…..

What was your budget?

Our budget was around £15,000, however it did end up more around £17,000!

We tried to keep the costs down by making our own stationary and decorating the barn ourselves but we were unwilling to compromise on things important to us, such as the videographer – so the budget crept up gradually over the 2 years of planning!

How would you describe your wedding theme?

I would describe the theme as lace, flowers and love! We had lace table runners, and made lace covered tealight holders, and obviously my dress was lace. We had flowers everywhere! Right from the table plan to flowers hanging from the ceiling! We had a beautiful flower arch which we married under and flowers hanging over the LOVE lights at the back.

61 flowers (2) 58 decorations (2)

We had flowers on tables, on the welsh dresser and even on the bar! And love ultimately ran through the room and the whole day!

37 decorations (8)

We married under a driftwood heart and even had LOVE spelt out in lights at the back of the room.

What was your favourite part of your wedding?

My favourite part of the day was the signing of the register. During this time my Grandad sang a song by the Everly brothers called ‘Let it be me’.

I adore my Grandad and he had contributed a lot to our day. He even created our table plan! We spent a long time trying to get a backing recording for him, but the song was so old it was impossible to get a version without the Everly brothers singing on it! In the end he was determined he would sing it acapella and it was so beautiful. So special. My sister burst into tears as soon as he started, which got me going! He has a beautiful voice and I will always treasure my wedding video and him singing that beautiful song.

“I bless the day I found you
I want to stay around you
And so I beg you, let it be me

Don’t take this heaven from one
If you must cling to someone
Now and forever, let it be me

Each time we meet love
I find complete love
Without your sweet love what would life be

So never leave me lonely
Tell me you love me only
And that you’ll always let it be me

Each time we meet love
I find complete love
Without your sweet love what would life be

So never leave me lonely
Tell me you love me only
And that you’ll always let it be me”

Tell us about your Wedding Dress

I found my dress in Wimbledon in London. We are currently living in London despite both being from Wales. I had booked an appointment with Teokath bridal, a small boutique recomended to me by a friend. On our way to Teokath, we passed another bridal shop called Paverly Bridal. As we had an appointment in Teokath we popped into Paverlybridal and also made an appointment for later in the afternoon. When we arrived at Teokath, I was very clear on the type of dress I wanted. I knew it would be a tulle skirt, very floaty with a fit and flare shape. But everything I tried on in was nice but didn’t really blow me away. By the time I got to Paverly all the dresses I had tried on were all merging together in my head and I was finding it difficult to remember the details. Feeling slighty discouraged we decided to chose 5 dresses I would not ever want to try! And then I found the one! Dress number 4 was a fitted lace gown with a fishtail bottom! I would have never picked it!

As soon as I put it on I could see Joe, and when I pictured our wedding day, for the first time I could picture myself there. I could see myself, in my fitted lace gown marrying my Joe. It was a very special moment and I knew I couldn’t look at another dress.

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why?

For my bridesmaids I had my two best friends and my sister and Joe’s sister. I met my best friends in secondary school, we went to Cardiff University together, lived together and now live close to each other in London. They were in the room when I told my girlfriends I had met a new boy (Joe) at just 17! They gave their approval of Joe and have been with us throughout our entire relationship so I had to choose them. And it felt right that they should make a speech at the wedding breakfast as they probably know me and Joe as a couple the most out of everyone!

Similarly, Joe picked his best friend from school and his brothers as his ushers. Joe and his best man Rhys have been inseparable forever, their families and really close and Joe couldn’t have picked anyone else.

Why did you choose your venue?

I loved Rosedew Farm as soon as I saw it. I loved the DIY aspect of it! We could personalise it as we wanted… which is exactly what we did! We had pictures of me and Joe everywhere, we even had our own cocktail on sale…”Perks Passion Punch!”. The toilets were also covered in photos! We transformed the venue to be all about us for the day, which we loved.

Christian, Sam and Sean were great, he was very relaxed and we hardly noticed him all day. His style is documentary style and that’s what we wanted. We did the posed group shots for family but we didn’t want to stand around all day taking photos. He had some great ideas and even found the cornfield, although he didn’t find the entrance to the corn field!

Despite the fact, Joe had to physically push my behind over the steep hill so we could get in the field, we managed to get some great shots!

How did the proposal happen?

Joe proposed to me on an amazing holiday in Egypt. Joe had asked a man who worked on the beach selling snad art in bottles to create a heart shaped bottle with will you marry me on it! I obviously had no idea. One evening we were heading to one of the hotel’s bars to watch a comedy show and Joe said he would pop back to the room to get some playing cards so we could play whilst we waiting for the show to start. Unknown to me, Joe had spotted the sand art man from the beach had the will you marry me bottle at the front of his stall, completely on show! Joe had panicked and run over the the man to tell him off and just took the bottle there and then. In a panic he ran back to the room with it and decided he would just have to propose that night as he worried he wouldn’t be able to hide it in the room! He then proceeded to run the men’s toilets (where he had seen rose petals in a bowl) so he could grab some last minute room decorations!

Meanwhile I was fuming, sat in a bar, watching a comedy show on my own instead of with my boyfriend and also panicking that he was okay because we couldn’t get signal on our phones that day! When Joe returned flustered and sweaty, he had some story about how he got locked out of the room but I was already fuming with him for leaving me so long! (great start to the proposal!).

After the show we had some drinks and headed back to the room. When we got in the room, Joe started playing our song ‘When I fall in Love’ by Nat King Cole which made me laugh but I didn’t think much of it because Joe is often romantic like that. He then started to dance with me and then I saw this heart shaped bottle on the bed. I asked what it was as I saw my name on the front. After the song he let me go so I could pick it up and when I turned it around it said ‘Will you marry me?’ on the back, and when I looked up Joe was on his knee with the ring! I would love to say it was a beautiful proposal from that point but the reality was, I stood frozen on the spot balling my eyes out and wailing like a baby for a good 2 minutes (I blame the wine!). Poor Joe did eventually get his yes though, and we took some champagne down the the beach to continue our celebrations and even danced to our song again under the stars! It was perfect! <3

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share?

We did lots of DIY bits for the day, my favourite was the table plan which I saw on Notonthehighstreet and had my grandad make for me.

34 table plan

What was your first dance & why?

Our first dance was always going to be ‘When I fall in Love’ by Nat King Cole. It has been our song for our entire 10 year relationship. We I hear the song I think of me and Joe led in bed in our Cardiff university flat singing it to each other!

77 first dance

After our song I arranged for the band to play another favourite of ours, “I want to grow old with you” from the film the Wedding Singer. Everyone joined us on the dance floor and me and joe belted out all the words to each other! It was amazing!

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently?

I can’t say I would have done it a lot different. When you day is such a perfect memory, you wouldn’t want it to be any other way.

If I had to something though, I would say make sure you have your own sewing kit in the bride’s room! We had a bridesmaid dress split in the morning and were late because we couldn’t find a needle anywhere!

Do you have any advice for future couples?

I would say, accept that you will pay more than you want to. It is very likely you will go over budget but don’t stress about it! When we are 50 I don’t think we’ll be upset about that money we spent over budget! We have memories we will treasure forever, you can’t put a price on that.

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you received?

We’ve been together so long, we didn’t get given a lot of advice! I guess we’ve made it work for 10 years so we just need to keep doing what we’re doing!

28 wedding ceremony (5)

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding?

I’ll be honest, I loved everything! But the bit I loved the most was the internet searching! I loved my Pinterest board and I loved my Sunday nights just chilling with a galss of wine and searching for colours, flowers and dresses! However, I’m sure Joe doesn’t miss that bit!

Real Weddings: Allie & Rafe’s Day, Their Way

So its nearly the weekend so we thought we would treat you, as usual, to another beautiful Real Wedding.  This week we give you Allie and Rafe, shot by the wonderful Andrew at Silverbirch Photography. Oooooh its so so lovely! The attention to detail, the venue, her coy smile, those shoes, his tweed, their little boy! I shall stop banging on about it and leave it to you to discover instead.  Over to Allie and Rafe to tell us all about their day……

Real Weddings: Allie & Rafe’s Day, Their Way

What was your budget?

We didn’t really have a set budget in mind. We knew we could only spend what we had so worked with that. We decided what was a need and what was a want then priced everything up. That sounds really boring I know but it really worked for us. Our rule of thumb was ‘does it sound reasonable’, if it did then we went for it. We had all the needs then had a few nice splurges too!

All together I’d say just under £7000 in total.

How would you describe your wedding theme?

The whole thing was perfect from start to end. My favourite part was how relaxed everyone felt. It was a casual laid back day with our closest family and friends. We were able to be ourselves and so were our guests. No pretending and no drama. Rafe was able to perform wuthering heights with the boys, the dance as well as the singing, I over indulged in Jagerbombs and no body batted an eyelid. Our families and friends mingled like they had all known each other for years.

I also loved seeing Rafe and our little boy Dylan dressed in the same outfit. It made my heart melt seeing him in his miniature tweed coat and brogues.

Tell us about your Wedding Dress

I didn’t step foot in a wedding dress shop. It just didn’t appeal to me at all. I knew I didn’t want a traditional dress and I knew trying on dresses in a shop just wasn’t for me. I initially chose a vintage Ivory embroidered full length gown but I just didn’t feel comfortable and didn’t feel like myself. In the end I went for a Chi Chi London lace baroque tea dress from ASOS. It was a bargain but I felt really special in it and more importantly felt like me.

IMG_7793 IMG_7896

I was actually more bothered about my shoes! I didn’t like traditional wedding shoes and knew I wanted something colourful. I found the most amazing burgundy shoes on Mod Cloth and instantly ordered them, they were perfect.

IMG_7803 IMG_8018

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why?

I chose my two best friends, Bobbie and Becci and my Cousin, Jess. Even though we have spent long periods of time miles apart and sometimes go weeks without talking and months without seeing each other they are three of the most important people to me in the world. It was definitely an easy decision. There’s never any expectations and when we do see each other it’s like no time has passed at all.

IMG_7946 IMG_7950

Rafe chose his two closest friends from when he was a teenager, Brad and Drinkel (Tom). Both live overseas now so it was amazing that they were able to join us for our day.

Why did you choose your venue?

As soon as we walked into Rosedew Farm we knew we wanted to get married there. It was the only venue we actually looked at. A big old empty barn by the sea. It was just perfect for us.

IMG_7715 IMG_7728

Tell us about your photographer

Our photographer was one of our splurges. I saw his photography on a wedding blog and I fell in love. I love Andrew’s style of photography and photos are really important to me so we contacted him. It was important to us that moments were caught on camera rather than just a posed image. I love our photos so much.

IMG_8032 IMG_8045 IMG_8141

How did the proposal happen?

We were chatting one day about our next travels. We love to travel and usually have our next two trips planned. I was saying to Rafe that I really wanted to go to Japan next year and he said “well can’t we get married instead?”. So that was that and we started planning.

IMG_7747 IMG_8159

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share?

The whole day was more or less DIY. From the invitations to the centrepieces to the cheesecake. Even the flowers were DIY. My mother in law and I spent many an hour digging in charity shops and antique shops for dream bottles and teapots, and evenings spent tying wooden cutlery and napkins. Rafe and I particularly enjoyed sampling the cheese in the shops before deciding which ones to have. My bridesmaid Becci was chief ‘florist’ and handtied all the bouquets and button holes. I think doing things DIY is more stressful and time consuming however you get to have things exactly as you want (whilst being a lot more cost effective too!). It just made the planning more exciting too as we could see everything coming together.

IMG_8158 IMG_8160 IMG_8165 IMG_8170

What was your first dance & why?

We didn’t want an announced first dance so we asked the DJ to play our first dance song later in the evening unannounced. We didn’t fancy the awkward sway with everyone watching. We danced to Bob Marley, Could You be Loved at a random point of the evening. It brings back happy memories of traveling around Central America and the Caribbean (then after returning home finding out we were going to have a baby!)

IMG_8059 IMG_8064

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently?

I don’t think so. It was perfect.

Do you have any advice for future couples?

Relax and enjoy yourself. You only do it once and it goes so fast. Stop worrying and just enjoy your day. There’s not enough time to sweat the small stuff.

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding?

CHEESE! I’m not kidding. Cheese shopping was so good. Getting to go around all the cheese shops and deli’s and taste loads of different cheeses before making our selections for our cheese cake.

Real Wedding: Catrin & Ian’s Rosedew Farm Wedding by Victoria Tyrrell Photography

Catrin & Ian’s gorgeous beach themed wedding at Rosedew Farm was submitted by the fabulous Victoria Tyrrell Photography. It is such a beautiful and happy day so stick the kettle on, settle in and have a good read!

On a personal note… This is the last wedding I will have the pleasure of uploading on to Cwtch the Bride so I’m glad it’s such a beauty! I have decided after a year as Features Editor to hand over the reins, but I can’t tear myself away completely so I’m sure you will see me around! Thank you to everyone who has chatted with me via email over the past year, I have loved all of your amazing weddings.

Love Charlie x
rosedew-83How would you describe your wedding theme? The overall theme of the day was the beach. We both love being at the beach and don’t live very far from some beautiful South Wales coastline. Ian proposed at the beach so it seemed to make perfect sense to continue the theme through the wedding… rosedew-92 rosedew-84

What was your favourite part of your wedding? It is very hard to choose as we honestly loved the entire day and have so many happy memories. Ian’s response – “Seeing you walk down aisle”. The ceremony was lovely. I imagined feeling nervous but in the happiness of the moment we felt it was a pleasure to say our vows to each other in the company of family and friends. Our speeches were excellent and we were thrilled to fit in a trip to Llantwit Beach after the wedding breakfast. Too many favourite parts!! rosedew-38 rosedew-41 rosedew-83

Tell us about your Wedding Dress I absolutely loved my dress but I certainly tried on a fair number in the process of choosing it! I say now that my dress search reflected my personality – I don’t make rash decisions and like to know I’ve covered all the ground before making a choice! I think me and the mums went to nearly every shop in South Wales. I finally bought the dress in Laura May Bridal. The first time I went to Laura May I felt like a child in a sweet shop – surrounded by a number of beautiful dresses that I was dying to try on. May was fantastic; she was very patient with me but also very constructive in helping me work through their beautiful dresses. I tried a number of dresses on after ‘the one’ but I didn’t like a single other A-line dress that I tried on so I knew that it was special! rosedew-4 rosedew-21 rosedew-31

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? My bridesmaid were very close friends of mine. It was an absolute joy spending time with them during the morning and the day, they are all beautiful ladies and great fun to be around.
rosedew-28Ian chose his brother as his best man. The choice was obvious, they are very close and as expected Mark did a fantastic job – his speech went down a storm! rosedew-32 rosedew-33

Why did you choose your venue? We looked at a number of venues in South Wales but Rosedew had everything we wanted and we both loved the feel of the place. We both love our food so it was important to us that we could pick our own caterers, something you can do at Rosedew. We loved the cottages and log cabins Gaynor had available and the fact that it meant lots of people could stay. Being able to put your own stamp on things is also a big bonus – it is such a blank canvas! rosedew-19 rosedew-71 rosedew-74

Tell us about your photographer We love Vikki and it was wonderful having Abi as a second shooter. Vikki did our engagement shoots and we absolutely loved them so we were very excited about our wedding photos and she certainly didn’t let us down! We felt so comfortable in Vikki and Abi’s presence which is so important when you’re spending such precious time with them on your wedding day. rosedew-65 rosedew-80 rosedew-85

How did the proposal happen? Our favourite spot is a low strip of wall which overlooks the sea at Dunraven Bay. It is a spot we have gone to for years to escape and relax. I had always had it in my head that I wanted it to happen there – I couldn’t imagine us getting engaged anywhere else so I was glad Ian had the same thought! One Friday evening, Ian suggested we took a trip up to Dunraven Bay. On our way up to ‘our spot’ I thought Ian was acting strange but he brushed it off, saying it had been a hard day at work. As we sat on the wall, Ian gave a beautiful speech and got down on one knee. I was in total shock! We spent a bit of time at the beach before heading back to a house full of balloons! rosedew-81

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? I had lots of ideas from Pinterest but was also very fortunate to have some very creative friends and family who helped me to develop my ideas. The favourite thing I made was the driftwood boats – I adapted a guide I found on Pinterest. I used some of Ian’s old shirts and we collected a lot of driftwood from Rest Bay. They’re not only perfect for a coastal theme but lovely decorations for the home! Most importantly, it’s great to make a social occasion out of DIY projects and get friends and family involved! rosedew-95

What was your first dance & why? Everthere by Elbow. Elbow are a band that have been with us since the beginning of our relationship and their music reminds us of many a happy time. The lyrics of this song seemed perfect to us. rosedew-97

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? In terms of our wedding day, we wouldn’t change a thing. We were incredibly lucky and loved every minute of it. In terms of wedding planning, I would definitely have factored more time in for DIY projects and put less pressure on myself. rosedew-92 rosedew-93rosedew-2

Do you have any advice for future couples? One guest gave the wise words ‘Nobody will notice it is missing if they didn’t know it should have been there’. With apps such as pinterest and so many good ideas from wedding blogs and friends it is easy to get over-loaded and try to do everything. I would definitely suggest keeping it realistic! We hired lots of things from Dear Florence and it really took some of the pressure off – her items are beautiful and really create an impact. We put a lot of time into researching our suppliers and it really paid off – they were all amazing. rosedew-5 rosedew-7 rosedew-8

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you received? Interestingly we didn’t get many pieces of marriage advice around the time of the wedding! In the past I have been told to expect the good times and the bad times and I think that is important. I have also been told to make time for each other, maybe even have a regular date night! rosedew-98

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? We were very lucky with how much friends and family helped us in the run up to our big day and the sheer amount of time and effort they put in. A number of family and friends spent many an hour and weekend at our house and the time spent with them was a real pleasure – we were both overwhelmed by their kindness. rosedew-15 rosedew-25 rosedew-70 rosedew-79 rosedew-87
