We featured Spencer & Stacey’s beautiful wedding at Fonmon Castle on Friday, which included this gem of a cwtch between Spencer and one of his friends. We love a bit of guy love here at Cwtch, who says cwtches are just for couples? ;) Big thanks to Sophie from Pycroft Weddings for sending it in!

Real Wedding: Spencer & Stacey’s Boho Wedding by Pycroft Weddings

Spencer & Stacey chose Fonmon Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan as their stunning wedding venue on the 12th April 2013. They’re now living in Australia (lucky things) so we asked their photographer, Sophie from Pycroft Weddings, a few questions about their day :) Hope you enjoy the slightly different perspective!

Fonmon Castle Wedding - Pycroft Weddings Vale of Glamorgan_059

What was your favourite thing about this wedding? I loved Stacey’s boho styling for this wedding, the dress was beautifully slim fitting, her hair was braided so looked natural & textured, and her make-up was minimal which really let her porcelain complexion show through. All the colours for the day also complimented her skin & red hair, which I think made the picture set and album look really stunning as a whole.

What advice would you give to brides & grooms about picking a wedding photographer? I’d say that personality plays a big part in getting the best images. You don’t want someone who’s going to be short tempered with guests or tries to be too ‘bossy’. I just stay up beat and nicely ask people to do what I want…this usually works fine for me!

Fonmon Castle Wedding - Pycroft Weddings Vale of Glamorgan_021Fonmon Castle Wedding - Pycroft Weddings Vale of Glamorgan_060

I’d also say to look at their broad portfolio, they might have done one or two pictures that you love, but they might be the only decent ones they’ve ever taken, and are their only advertising material, so take the time to look through different weddings and make sure the general overall feel of the images is something that you really love, then you know you will get that for your own.

Fonmon Castle Wedding - Pycroft Weddings Vale of Glamorgan_054Fonmon Castle Wedding - Pycroft Weddings Vale of Glamorgan_057

What do you love about the venue? The lighting in the library at Fonmon Castle was so perfect for taking natural light pictures, where the ceremony is held in a bay window at the end of the room, I couldn’t ask for a more perfect spot! The colours in the room were also really fresh and neutral, not at all dark, so this reflected in the pictures and gave them a modern vintage look. The grounds were also perfect for pictures, not too big so we didn’t have to walk far to find beautiful secluded spots.

How would you describe the theme of Spencer & Stacey’s wedding? I would say that the theme was boho vintage, the vintage theme is so popular that you can’t just put every wedding in the same category! the whole relaxed feel of the day and the styling for the flowers & dresses, and even the fact that the speeches were very chilled out gave the boho vibe. Stacey’s head piece just topped it off! The men looked smart, but because the suits were an earthy brown, this again felt more relaxed.

What advice would you have for future bride & grooms? I think a lot of bride and grooms try to fit too much into the day, it really does go so quickly and before you know it, it is finished. You want to remember your wedding not as a rushed blur, so try and spread things out, make sure there’s enough time between arrival at the venue and sitting down for food for talking and having fun with guests.

Fonmon Castle Wedding - Pycroft Weddings Vale of Glamorgan_080I like to have about an hour of the time between arrival and food for pictures, so if you can leave another hour for socialising, you can soak up the atmosphere a lot better. Plus then I can get more of the documentary style pictures that everyone loves.

Real Wedding: Nathan & Vicki’s Vintage Country Garden Wedding by Pycroft Weddings

We’ve got another stunning wedding from Sophie at Pycroft Weddings today, yay! :) Nathan and Vicki got married on the 30th March this year at The Coed-Y-Mwstwr Hotel, near Bridgend in South Wales.

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_055

We asked Vicki for the low down on their big day…

What was your budget? Everyone knows that weddings are an expensive business, and we tried to be smart/thrifty wherever possible by making or recycling whatever we could.

This fitted well with our vintage country garden theme and it was such a fun experience trying to think smarter about things we could use! Our handmade lace invitations were painstakingly put together, although those cold October nights we spent together chatting about ‘what the day would be like’ are some of my fondest memories!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_081

We tried as best we could to make things that we could use after the wedding too – the homemade lace candle jars were dotted around the venue to create cute twinkles of light – are now perfectly placed in our newly decorated bedroom – and are a perfect reminder of the day!

How would you describe your wedding theme? I would describe it as a ‘vintage country garden’ themed wedding – think Cath Kidston and youre pretty close! Pretty pastels and cute touches!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_062

We also wanted the day to have a very relaxed feel, we tried to keep any formalities simple, we didnt want too much pomp and ceremony, when the venue offered us a red carpet and a receiving line- we knew these were the exactly the kind of things we wanted to avoid!

What was your favourite part of your wedding? The whole day was fantastic!

The night before the wedding we stayed at the venue, the girls had a champagne pamper night whilst the boys played poker and drinking games with tequila!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_008

The preparation on the morning of the wedding was so relaxed and although most people dont want that part to end- by 11:30am I just couldnt wait to get downstairs and get married!

Walking downt the aisle and getting married was almost an out of body expereince! Im so glad we had a DVD from Sophie & Hannah so that we can watch it back and remeber things that passed us by on the day!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_024

It really does fly by so quickly but it was the perfect day we had planned!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_029

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? Our bridesmaids were Nathan’s younger sister Sophie and cousin Sam, both girls are in their early twenties and were perfectly poised and stunning all day! And of course they helped me wave my single days goodbye on a mental hen weekend in Bristol!

Nathan chose Tom & Aled as his best men, Nathan and Aled have been friends since nursery days and Tom & Nathan both studied pharmacy together at Cardiff University after becoming close friends in sixth form. As is customary the boys speeches had the guests in hysterics, and again being able to watch them back on the DVD is a bonus!

The day just wouldnt have been the same without any of them!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_079Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_075

Why did you choose your venue? As we did the traditional venue trail round South Wales, Coed-Y-Mwstwr was at the forefront of my mind as Nathans sister- Natalie, had her wedding reception there in September 2008 and I remembered the perfect day we had there as a family.

We tried to put the venue out of our minds to avoid ‘copying’ however none of the others came close and after several discussions with the family we decided it would be a nice touch to share the same venue, and many aspects of the day would also be completely different!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_077Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_047Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_058

The venue had everything we wanted- the option for guests to stay overnight, perfect grounds and exclusivity!

Everything about it was just perfect!

How did the proposal happen? I always insisted a public proposal in a formal setting with Nathan on bended knee wouldnt be my cup of tea!

A few years ago on Valentines today we decided to take a trip to Penarth Pier and enjoy a chip shop supper on the waterfront, to my amusement Nathan ‘forgot his wallet’ and this became a recurring joke on most special occassions. As our tenth anniversary was fast approaching Nathan insisited we should do something to mark it, again we deiced to take a trip to Penarth Pier for another chip shop supper – where again Nathan forgot his wallet! We ate our chips, and took a leisurely stroll along the Pier, where to my surprise Nathan pulled out a ring and asked me how I would feel about becoming Mrs Davies! It was such a surpise and obviously I said yes!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_074Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_053

The very next day we took a trip to the jewellers to replace the £3.50 Dorothy Perkins ring Nathan had used to propose – every time I look at my engagement ring, it I remember that day so vividly, what it meant to us both and how special that day was!

And obviously I still have the Dorothy Perkins ring as a memento!

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? Pinterest is a planners dream! So many ideas and inspiration to help create that perfect day you always dreamed of!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_039

It was an obsession of mine during the whole process for the biggest and smallest details. It really helped us in so many of our weddingy craft projects! And of course, if you’re not feeling brave enough to craft it yourself there’s Etsy- I bought a few gems here too :)

What was your first dance & why? Having been together over 10 years, choosing one song was a little tricky! For weeks we struggled to pinpoint one particular song we a) could agree on and b) that summed up our relationship. The only thing we did agree on was that it would definitely be an uptempo song, and so the deliberating began.

Then one rainy Friday ‘movie night’ whilst watching 500 Days of Summer there was a ‘moment’ -the dance scene- the over the top grandeur and eye-popping color coordination, Jospeh Gordon-Levitt’s shimmy whilst serenading a cartoon bluebird and breaking into song- to a cheesy number (You Make My Dreams Come True) by the wonderful music of Hall and Oates was our ‘Eureka’ moment!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_084

As cheesy as it sounds there is an ecstasy and energy in that scene and song that makes you want to dance in the street. The song captures a feeling…like you’re on top of the world. We knew straight away this would be ‘the song’!

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? Nothing at all!

Do you have any advice for future couples? PINTEREST & enjoy the planning! Its all over so quickly- be sure to take it all in!

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? The whole experience was so thrilling!

We had mine and the bridesmaids dresses made by Lorraine Stone at Truly Scrumptious in Porthcawl – the girly Saturday morning fittings were so fun! Watching Lorraine take our dresses from a complex drawing to a beautiful couture piece was just special!

Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_046Nathan Vicki Welsh Wedding Coed-y-Mwstwr Pycroft Weddings_045

I enjoyed the whole experience and I really miss the research and planning now that its all over, if someone asked me to plan a wedding tomorrow I’d do it in a heartbeat!

Make Up Artist – Kathryn Kift at MAC in Debenhams, Cardiff – our make up artist was fantastic! She arrived in plenty of time and was so relaxed as she worked on the 5 of us!! She joined in the fun and gossip, like a friend I’d known for years!

Real Wedding: Daniel & Sophie’s Classic Elegant Wedding by Pycroft Weddings

Daniel and Sophie tied the knot at their classic elegant wedding on the 20th October 2012 at Cardiff City Hall. Sophie from Pycroft Weddings was there to capture the all the details :)

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_054

We asked Sophie (the bride!) some questions about their big day…

How would you describe your wedding theme? Quite classic I suppose. I was keen for quite a neutral theme without any bright colours. My bridesmaids wore palomino coloured dresses which complemented the white marble at our wedding venue nicely. Our bouquets were white roses with a few sprigs of eucalyptus running through. The men wore palomino coloured ties and pocket squares with charcoal coloured suits. They all looked very smart indeed.

What was your favourite part of your wedding? Definitely my Dad walking me down the aisle, and seeing Dan turn around beaming at me surrounded by our wonderful guests. My heart was beating like the clappers as I began the walk down the aisle but as soon as I reached Dan I was far more chilled.

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_027

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? I chose my sisters Ceri and Briony and my best friend from university Amy who is like a sister to me.  They were totally amazing and supported me through all the little ups and downs along the way! My younger sister Briony needs a special mention here for organising the best hen do a girl could ask for!  She managed to get 16 of us to Ibiza and back safely, all in one piece which was no mean feat! Dan choose his school friend Peadar who he knew would be the best man for the job.

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_045Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_047

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_024

Why did you choose your venue? Dan is from Carmarthen and I’m from Worcestershire but we’ve both lived in Cardiff for the last 13 years so it feels like home now. We chose to get married in The Marble Hall at City Hall which is a stunning venue. We had the wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast there and moved to the Park Plaza Hotel which was a 2 minute walk away as we were keen for a more informal relaxed affair for the evening.

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_022

How did the proposal happen? Dan proposed on St Dwynwen’s Day 2010. He whisked me up to Ynys Llanddwyn on Anglesey  to pop the question. I was totally blown away,it was very romantic.

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_035

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? We sourced our own champagne in France which saved us money and we had quite a lot of fun sampling them too!

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_083

What was your first dance & why? We chose ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz. We both really loved the song, and the lyrics are very appropriate. It was also a nice upbeat song to bop to.  We had the dance floor to ourselves for the start, and then invited our guests to come up and join us.

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? Not a thing.

Do you have any advice for future couples? Stay true to yourselves, and don’t let others sway you in your decisions too much.

Pycroft Weddings Sophie Daniel Cardiff City Hall Wedding_019

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you received? “Always kiss each other goodnight”. No matter how busy, stressed or tired we are a good night kiss seems to put it all right.

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? The food and wine tasting was a definite highlight!  The thought that you are planning a big party for all your family and close friends to celebrate with you is very special too.
