What was your favourite part of your wedding? Seeing everything I had worked hard at over the last year come together perfectly, from the bridesmaids dresses from eBay to homemade jam & marmalade! :)

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? My four best friends: Jodie, Stacey, Emilia & Katie and our flower girl Lili (who is our friend’s 6 year old daughter)

Our best man was Ross’s brother, Kristian. There was no other option, they are close brothers!!

How did the proposal happen? Ross took me up Afan Argoed where we walk our dogs Bella & Blaze. It was a sunny day, March 24th 2012. We got to an opening of trees where it looks over the valley and we sat on a bench; I turned back around and there he was on one knee! Of course I said YES!!

What was your first dance & why? Ed Sheeran – Kiss Me. His album was released when we first got together and we pretty much listened to it every time we were in the car!

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? Nothing – everything turned out perfectly! People couldn’t get over how calm I was and the whole process leading up to the wedding!

Do you have any advice for future couples? Do what YOU want and what makes you BOTH happy. Try not to let other’s opinions get you down. I was adamant I didn’t want a “traditional” wedding so we didn’t. I don’t have the usual family set up, I was brought up with my grandparents as my mum passed away when I was 8 so it was important to me not to follow the usual tradition.

Marc Smith Photography Swansea Wedding Village Hotel_079

I included my mum in many ways on the day, the main one being that we had our wedding on her birthday which was important to me, I also had a locket attached to my bouquet with her picture inside and we had a candle burning for her in the reception with a little poem.

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? I was able to plan my dream, everything was to our taste. It was pretty much a reflection of our home with all the tea cups and homemade shabby chic decoration. Ross likes it too (he didn’t have much choice ;) haha)!

Real Wedding – Claire & Craig’s Winter Wonderland Wedding by Marc Smith

Claire & Craig had a winter wonderland wedding at Peterstone Court on the 8th December 2012. Marc Smith was on hand to capture the details :)

How would you describe your wedding theme? From the moment we decided on a Christmas wedding I knew the theme: elegant, romantic with a sprinkle of sparkle and whites and silvers with candle light. Not only would the 8th December be our wedding day but also Craig’s 30th Birthday. A big weekend of celebrations! I wanted it to be filled with personal touches and class. I thought the silver and white complemented each other perfectly.

What was your favourite part of your wedding? Trying to decide on a favourite part from our wedding day is a hard question! Every single part was my favourite :) From the moment of waking up I tried to fully take in every moment. Having planned every single detail I would have to say seeing the emotion on Craig’s face as I walked down the aisle and the beautiful speech he gave would have to be right at the top of my list :) The only two things I could never have planned turned into my favourites…

I will always remember sitting in my chair on the top table and looking down the room at all our family and friends eating and drinking with happy smiles, the room looking beautiful in candlelight and just thinking to myself “take this all in, this is perfect” :)

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? Growing up as a single child I have been lucky enough to find wonderful friends to share all my moments with…this is the reason I decided on bridesmaids with a twist! Thirteen of my closest girls along with Craig’s sister wore beautiful dresses all picked by them in different shades of silver and all knee length. A risky idea but it turned out perfectly! My maid of honour Kimberly wore an elegant dress that fell to the floor. I also made sure none of the girls saw each others dresses until the big day :) This added so much fun to what was already an exciting morning. Craig picked his brother Dale and close friend Lance to be best men and our son Brody as his best boy, along with four ushers. We are both very lucky to have such amazing friends who really helped us with anything we needed.

Why did you choose your venue? From the moment I arrived at Peterstone Court I knew it was the one. It was December and the Christmas decorations were just the icing on the cake, it was decorated perfectly with so much class and warmth. The ball room blew me away – white walls, beautiful mirrors and full of light – exactly what I had been looking for! It just got better as we looked around all the rooms where our guests would stay, we didn’t look anywhere else as we knew this was the one. On the weekend of our wedding we stayed the night before with all our nearest and dearest and it just added to what was a perfect wedding :)

The staff was all fabulous – our day ran exactly to plan with the help of everyone at Peterstone. We had so many comments about how fantastic the food was and the beauty of the house.

How did the proposal happen? While away on holiday Craig surprised me on my birthday by writing the words “will you marry me ” on his plate with the chocolate from a chocolate fountain at a restaurant. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. He ended up on one knee, and of course my answer was “YES”!

Any DIY stories/tutorials you’d like to share? Sadly we had lost Craig’s mother and also my grandfather in the years running up to the wedding, so it meant a lot to us both to have them in mind while planning the day. I decided to have our favourite photos of them in pretty frames on the piano.

Both the women’s and men’s favours were picked with them in mind. The women had white heart tea light holders with tags tied with a bow and the words “keep me” on them. They looked lovely and were worth every bow I tied :)

Marc Smith - Claire & Craig Powys Peterstone Court_078

The men had a cigar as my grandfather enjoyed these often :) I loved looking for extra little details through all the planning. I-spy and cameras for the tables, inscribed cutlery by the talented Goozeberry Hill, name charms for the bridesmaids champagne glasses, a handmade Christmas decoration of Craig and I. My favourite would be our handwritten heart place names. Or maybe our sparkler arch when it became night time, the list is endless!

What was your first dance & why? Our first dance was to Chantal Kreviazuk – Feels Like Home. It’s not a common choice but the words to this song say it all – after listening to it so many times during the run up, nothing compares to the few minutes it plays on your wedding day. Craig is not a keen dancer so for him to even just sway for this song meant more than anything.

Marc Smith - Claire & Craig Powys Peterstone Court_106

In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently? I can honestly say there was not one thing I would change. I don’t think I could have enjoyed the two years planning any more than I did. I made sure I spent time on the day taking every moment in.

Marc Smith - Claire & Craig Powys Peterstone Court_053

Do you have any advice for future couples? Enjoy every single second from the hen and stag do tp the planning and prepping and of course the day itself! It does fly by but the feeling is just as good as everyone tells you it will be.

Marc Smith - Claire & Craig Powys Peterstone Court_040Marc Smith - Claire & Craig Powys Peterstone Court_043

The photographer and videographer are worth every penny – We’re so happy we chose Marc Smith and Orchid Films, they both provided excellent attention to detail.

What’s the best piece of marriage advice you received? A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.

Marc Smith - Claire & Craig Powys Peterstone Court_086

What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding? I am sure every bride has her favourite part of a wedding be it her dress, cake, food…for me it was the decoration of the room. I wanted candelabras, white flowers, personal touches and that’s what I had with the help of the talented Mairwen Mackintosh. I would also say the photographer came very high on my list. I knew the photos would be what I could always look back on. Marc Smith didn’t let me down – the effort and time he put into every shot was amazing. He really listened to all my ideas and we were over the moon with the end result – a beautiful album we will always treasure :)
