Colour Inspiration: Pistachio

Hello my lovelies. My chosen colour this time could be seen as a bit obscure. I have had a love for this colour ever since I bought bed sheets in my second year in uni in 1998. They just cheered me up no end, and made my room feel like a lovely place to be.  Which was just as well as it helped me get over the many hangovers (weekly), slugs on the carpet (almost daily – bleurgh), broken hearts (fortnightly) and occasional stranger asleep in the living room with a severe lack of hygiene (monthly).

But putting aside some serious questions I should’ve been asking myself nearly 20 (20?! Holy hell!) years ago, I need to show you why this will just add that bit of gorgeous colour to your wedding you may be searching for….

Pistachio Hydrangeas

Oh blimey i do so love hydrangeas.  We had them all over the shop at our wedding, in fact my bridesmaids had just a bouquet made up of white hydrangeas. They are just so delicate and pretty, and the green in the them is just perfect to go with a pistachio.

Before I even start to talk about how gorgeous these look, I need to tell you what they actually are.  Pistachio Macarons with Rose Buttercream!!! I mean, wow! Without even trying one, I can I pretty much guarantee I could eat about 70 of them.

Eating them aside, the combination of colours here are just delightful. Imagine a table full. Loads of trays, full of these gorgeous looking, delicious sounding delights!

Ok. Im back to eating them.

Pistachio Bridesmaid from Debenhams

Debut Pisachio BMaid

Pretty pretty prettiness! The drop of this is so lovely, as well as the neckline being so flattering.  This dress would suit pretty much anyone, but in this colour, its even more lovely.  Debenhams have this gorgeous dress by Debut for £99.

Yes yes yes, I know I have already talked about cake, but this is a bigger cake, and who doesn’t love having two lots of cake!?  You can find the recipe for this wondrous looking cake on the Daily Mail website. Look how lovely its is!

Converse – Office

Pisachio Cons (,21:2452066601)

Apart from the fact that these are awesome, more and more brides are opting for the casual converse look under their gorgeous gowns. There are many a reason behind this, but for me, it would be comfort (obvs) and to be able to dance dance dance until the wee hours without losing feeling in any of my toes. Office have these for £56.99.

Pistachio and Peach Shades Bouquet from Walnut and Willow

Pisachio and Peach Flwoers (Walnut and Willow)

Look at this most delicious looking floral arrangement! More flowers, I know, but the very clever Lola from Walnut and Willow has put together such a breathtaking arrangement here, with the most delightful mixture of colours (including the little pistachio elements), that I needed to show it off! And look how gorgeous the pistachio goes with peach! Just saying!

To sum up, what should, on paper, be a little bit of an odd choice of colour, when you see it in ‘bridal action’, I think you would agree the it really is such a delightful colour.  Not only does it make the most excellent colour for cheering up an otherwise depressing student accommodation bedroom, but this is surely a must for any wedding! x

Wedding Cake Trends for 2015-16 from Little Cake Cupboard

As well as preparing for Cwtchfest and spending most of her time baking DELICIOUS wedding cakes (I have tried them, they really are amazing!) Rachel from the Little Cake Cupboard has taken some time to share some of the trends for 2015-16 to give you some inspiration. Be warned, this post will probably make you hungry.

Cake trends are moving very quickly at the moment but the ‘rustic look’ is still huge and especially popular with barn and country weddings.  Our rustic cakes incorporate engraved wood textured icing, wrappings of twine and hessian and clusters of gorgeous delicate sugar wildflowers to soften the design.  A super modern take on ‘rustic’ for the bold bride is incorporating a black tier in the form of a chalkboard!

Metallic silver and gold tiers are also a big trend for 2015. We love to accompany these with a single, bold, statements flower such a open peony or a statement rose.

Another new bold trend is graphic prints; chevrons or horizontal stripes mixed with metallic. Were also going to have lots of fun incorporating typography into some cakes later this year!

Silver Stripe Wedding Cake

Ombre colours are also very popular for 2015  – 16 weddings and these are featured heavily in our new collection of cakes. Our new ‘Watercolour Ombre’ cake is a favourite and we’ve added a touch of metallic bronze to make our berries sparkle too!

Some brides are choosing to move away from floral and coloured cakes altogether and just have a tall, textured beauty! There are so many beautiful effects that can be achieved with icing; ruffles, waves, rosettes, lace textures and embossing, the possibilities for an original cake design are endless.

Flavour trends are moving quickly too. Wedding Cakes made entirely from fruit cakes are becoming a thing of the past. Brides and grooms are looking for more unique and interesting flavour combinations such as our Banoffee, Chocolate with salted caramel or raspberry ripple, which are all available to sample at our regular Taster Events.

Our Tips for Brides

  • Take as many visuals as possible to your design consultation. In order for your cake to be truly original it’s important to come armed with lots of inspiration. Images of your chosen flowers, dress, venue decoration, stationary are all really useful to help your cake designer understand your wedding concept and design you a bespoke artisan cake.
  • Always sample the flavours – the taste of the cake is as equally important as a beautiful design! Here at Little Cake Cupboard we invite all our Brides and Grooms to attend our regular ‘Taster Days’ to try all of our flavours and choose their favourites. If you can choose more than one flavour so there will be something all your guest will like.
  • Order your wedding cake well in advance.  Little Cake Cupboard takes bookings up to 2 years in advance and fill up very quickly for popular Spring/Summer dates.

Thank you Rachel for taking the time to share these with us!

Little Cake Cupboard will be joining us at CWTCHFEST next month so if you want to see these cakes in real life make sure you buy your tickets now!

Its our 2nd Birthday!

534 blog posts later and here we are celebrating our 2nd birthday. I launched this lovely little welsh wedding blog two years ago today and what a wonderful journey its been so far.

There are so many things I love about this crazy little project. Firstly, I NEVER thought it would grow as fast as it has. I’m continulally blown away with the amount of positive comments it continues to recieve (one of my favourite being a lady that walked straight up to me at a wedding fair, gave me a massive cwtch telling me how much she loves the blog, that she’s found all her suppliers through it and hopes we’ll feature her wedding afterwards… of course we will!) Another was a message from Richard from Aurora to say he’d booked a wedding in Jamacia and the bride found him on this here blog! You can take a look at the wedding here:

BRILLIANT! I love that we are helping both couples & local businesses.

As our team grows and I continue to develop the blog, I look forward to the year ahead with some great things planned.

  • CWTCHFEST: We are organising Wales’ first wedding festival on Sunday 19th April.
  • LUSH LIST: An online directory of Wales’ finest wedding suppliers (Launching tomorrow eek!)
  • Our Studio: We’ve finally moved from my dining room into a new studio space and we LOVE it! (more details on this coming soon)

This cake was kindly made for us by The Little Cake Cupboard

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone that has either worked with me on this blog, read one of our posts, shared one of our links, liked one of our images, booked a supplier we’ve recommended, submitted their wedding and invested in this. WE LOVE YOU ALL! (not in a creepy way… more a ‘come here and let us give you a massive cwtch’ kind of way).

An extra special thank you goes out to my girls… these ladies are super special to me and I’m so proud I get to work with them on this. Charlie, Anna, Sophie, Kate & Pippa. THANK YOU!

Lets celebrate!
