We have been so looking forward to sharing this breathtaking wedding with you. Martin Ellard of My Big Day Photography has captured absolutely breathtaking shots of Catherine and Christians special day. So without further ado, grab a cuppa (or a glass of fizz, depending on what time you’re reading this), sit back and give your eyes a lovely treat. Over to the Bride and Groom themselves to tell you all about their day…….
What was your budget?
We didnt have one.
How would you describe your wedding theme?
We just wanted a low key wedding, joined by our family and close friends. Our idea was that we just wanted ‘one big party’. Christian is a big Ibiza fan and we are always at the beach so our theme was ‘Ibiza/meets Morocco’ , as our house is always full of candles/lanterns. We chose not to have any elaborate centre pieces we chose instead to keep the restaurant tables as they were (dark wood) and placed lanterns and candles in the centre, these also lined the ailse for me to walk through.
Lots of cream and golds. We also brought in an Ibiza DJ who lives in London but plays out in Ibiza as we both love music.
What was your favourite part of your wedding?
We loved every minute of our day and laughed/smiled/cried all day. It was exactly how we pictured it. One of my favourite parts of the day was when my husband took to the DJ decks later on in the evening to suprise me with his DJ’ ing skills.
Tell us about your Wedding Dress
I knew I didnt want the traditional ‘white dress’. I love fashion so I knew I wanted my dress to be something different. I contacted a local designer Agnes Olah Couture and asked if she could help. I went for an initial consultation with her and told her what I didnt want, she proceeded to sketch some ideas and we both loved what she had designed, I did try on a particular dress that she had designed for a photoshoot and I knew I was going to love her ideas. We worked together on tweaking the dress but I pretty much left it in her hands and I was totally blown away by the results when she unveiled it to me literally weeks before the big day. She had also designed a head piece for me to wear, the whole concept was stunning.
Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why?
We chose our 3 daughters as our bridesmaids and our son and nephew as page boys.
We chose James ‘Kettle’ as our best man as he has always been there for Christian and seen him through many of lifes adventures. We also knew he would bring the house down with his speech, it was hilarious.
Why did you choose your venue?
We wanted a low key venue that was non traditional. We love wine bars and tapas restaurants which is why we chose the River House, it was a beautiful setting and we were the first wedding they have had there which made it more special for us.
We didnt want the traditional sit down wedding breakfast so opted instead for Tapas which is what the River House do so well, we had moijitos and cocktails and champagne, followed by a buffet and toffee vodka shots.
Tell us about your photographer
I first met Martin at my brothers wedding 3 years ago. My brother had flown him over to Italy where he got married and I just loved his vibe. I loved the results of his work and as Christian and I werent so keen on having a photographer, we just wanted natural pictures that captured the fun on the day. Martin made us feel totally at ease (especially camera shy Christian) and he captured the day perfectly, he was so easy going and stayed on to capture all our party images later on in the night. The photos were amazing, we couldnt have asked for a better photopgraher. He went over and above just taking pictures, from the moment he arrived at the house in the morning, he helped with organising and was just brilliant.
How did the proposal happen?
Christian and I had been together about a year and the day after Christmas Day (Boxing Day) we took a rather wet and windy walk along our favourite beach (Langland). Halfway along the beach, Christian said ‘you know how we always talk that we’ll get married someday’ so I said yes, he then took a ring out of his pocket and said ‘ok then, lets’ I thought it was a joke at first, I was so shocked but of course I said yes.
What was your first dance & why?
Neither of us particularly like the spot light or are particularly soppy, so we knew we didnt want to do the traditional first dance. We decided on a bit of a mash up and chose some appropriate songs that we thought would be fun, we dont take ourselves too seriously. First we slow danced to ‘a thousand years’ this was then mashed into Robin Thicke ‘blurred lines’ complete with Christian aka Robin Thicke in his shades and me dancing around him like in the video, this then went into ‘Golddigger’ and finished off with ‘Beautiful People’. We enlisted the help of our 15 year old world champion street dancer (no pressure) to help us. No one was expecting it and it brought many laughs (and some shocked faces).
In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently?
No, we loved every minute of it.
Do you have any advice for future couples?
Dont stress, just plan it but if it doesnt go to plan, dont panic, enjoy your day. One thing we didnt do was lose sight of each other on the day, its easy to get caught up with mingling with friends and family but we did it all together.
What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding?
Putting all our ideas together from the colour schemes to the visions we had.
