A Gentleman’s Tea

Ladies. Think we are the only ones that care about our appearance on the big day? Think again.

Today we are heading west from Cwtch HQ to Llanelli where on the back of the success of afternoon teas and hen parties The Stradey Park Hotel have spotted a gap in the market for our grooms to be and introduced a Gentleman’s Tea and grooming package.

Gentlemans tea

Daniel Bayliss, Design and Marketing manager told us how they are finding men are more prepared to try something new and are definitely looking after themselves more.  A third of all spa goers are now men.

With this in mind, they have started putting together Bachelor parties to match up with the bridal showers they currently offer. They have teamed up with local business, 6 Men’s Hub Grooming and offer a package including a hot towel shave/beard trim, haircut and nasal wax with complimentary drinks.  “These are proving really popular as a gift from the groom to his best man, ushers and fathers of the bride and groom” Damian Hart, Managing Director told us.

Gentleman’s tea has shaken up the traditional dainty sandwiches and cakes to a heartier focused menu sending their chefs out to the wilds of Carmarthenshire to assemble the finest ingredients in selection of manly treats, both savoury and sweet served on a slate board – all  washed down with a cup of tea or coffee in a moustachio’d cup and saucers.

The savoury heartiness includes

~ Chargrilled beef burger topped with Welsh cheese, rocket and apple chutney served in a crusty roll

~ Corned beef rissole served on sweet red onion marmalade

~ Coronation scotch egg with mango salsa

~ Cumberland sausage roll

Gentlemans Tea Close

And Sweet treats

~ Warm caramelised apple tart

~ Lemon sponge cake

Yum!!

Emma’s Hen Party!

On the blog today we have the gorgeous Emma from Emma Philips Bridal Studio. Yes…Bridal boutique owners get married too! and they have rather awesome hen parties hahaha

Wedding-66All images in the post by: Maria Farrelly Photography

I’ve known Emma for a number of years and was thrilled when she asked if I could come along and photograph part of her Hen do.

In all honesty, It was the first hen do i’ve ever photographed. Amongst the numerous weddings, pre-wedding shoots and family portraits I am commissioned for, this was a refreshing change and one I knew would be hilarious. I’ll hand you over to Emma and she can tell you all about it. But before I do… Ladies, if you’d like your hen party photographed, give me a shout, I had great fun with this one and would love to do more :) ~ Maria x

Hello Cwtchers!

Wedding-11

To be fair, my Hendo was kept pretty much like a secret military operation by my sister Lucy!

Wedding-64I was only allowed to know that it was Cardiff, and that was it! Even the other girls didn’t know (Apart from the bridesmaids – and some of my friends hate surprises!) so it was great fun just jumping in the car & heading off….once we had met at my house, dressed head to toe in “Geek Chic”!

Wedding-67
We actually started the day off in my favourite way – EATING! We were booked into the brilliantly fun, Mexican street -food restaurant Wahaca’s, where we munched on crickets (yes crickets!), taco’s, churros & lots of Mexican beers & cocktails (mocktails for my two, yes TWO pregnant bridesmaids!).

Wedding-63After plenty of amusement there, we then headed to the utterly fabulous Lab 22 on Mill Lane for a superb cocktail masterclass!

Now, I spent years working for Revolution cocktail bars, so I knew a thing or two myself but this blew us away….smoke filled teapots, trickery & tom foolery, and heavenly cocktails made by us! And to top it all off….the beautiful (& talented!) Maria Farrelly was there to catch us in the action, right in the thick of it! For me, having these pictures from my Hen Party was invaluable. You always get the beautiful wedding day pictures, but its rare to have a fab photographer to capture all the giggles and mishaps of a fun girls night out!

Wedding-15Wedding-47Wedding-46
After consuming all the cocktails…I’m struggling to remember where we went next! I do know it involved pretending to watch the rugby whilst drinking more beers & then checking into the gorgeous Park Plaza for the evening, getting dolled up & out once again. Sunday was a fabulous wind down, with Gentlemans Afternoon Tea in the Park Plaza hotel which (as a complete foodie!) was EPIC!

Thank you so much to all my beautiful bridesmaids, and friends who made it a brilliant weekend…and of course to Maria for capturing us in such hilarious style, Emma xx

Hen Party Ideas: Cocktail Making in Cardiff

Sometimes at Cwtch we get offered lovely opportunities that are just too good to pass up! Recently the team from the Radisson Blu hotel in Cardiff got in touch to see if we’d like a sneak preview of their new mixology masterclass – well, they didn’t have to ask us twice! (You’ll never have to ask us twice if you’d like to give us free cocktails, we love a fancy drink).

mixology lesson

The idea

Cocktail making has been a firm favourite for hen dos for a while now, so we were curious what new spin the Radisson were planning with their event.

We shimmied up to the hotel to meet up with some other bloggers to find out that we wouldn’t just be watching someone make cocktails – we’d be getting a lesson in how to make some of our favourites too (and a few new one we’d not heard of before!). We even got the chance to make up our own cocktail recipe, which was a lot of fun!

How it worked

It was a really classy event – relaxed and focussed on the ingredients, and learning about why certain flavours work well with each other, rather than just getting drunk. If you’re looking for a more chilled out, sophisticated version of the classic cocktail making course then we’d definitely recommend this one :)

First of all we were shown a few classics – the Bellini, a Margarita, a Martini, a Mojito and an Ameretto Sour (lots of m’s!). For each cocktail the resident mixologist, Jamie, picked two people to try out the recipes while he explained how they were made, so everyone got a turn at making something which was great fun for all.

After we’d learnt the basics we split into two teams to compete against each other to create the tastiest cocktail – we had a great time imaging all the crazy combinations we could make. Maria and I were on separate teams which means we can officially say that (someone from) Cwtch the Bride came out on top ;) In reality both cocktails tasted great and Jamie was hard pressed to choose a winner.

We spent a good couple of hours at the hotel, overall. It felt like the perfect amount of time to appreciate the drinks but not get so tipsy that you start to wish you hadn’t tried that last one! :)

Cwtch rating

We had a great time hanging out with everyone, so we can imagine that with your group of best girls (or boys!) you’d have an absolute whale of a time. The masterclasses are held in the downstairs bar so you get the space to yourselves, always a nice touch. The hotel is also super central, so if you’re planning a hen weekend in Cardiff then you can easily add this to your itinerary without having to worry about designated drivers missing out :)

We’re giving it a great big two thumbs up. If you like cocktails then we think you’ll love it :)
