Past Bride Top Vendor Choice: The Boutique Disco

Sometimes it’s nice to hear from people who have been there, done it and got the t-shirt. That’s why we have our regular past bride contributors on the site like CharlieSarah, Pippa & Sophie, to give you all a bit of help while you’re in the midst of planning your weddings!

We also like to hear from our readers who are now married, especially when they have a vendor that they absolutely loved. What better than a personal recommendation from a bride or groom who’s already used that service for her own wedding? :)

Why he stood out:

My husband and I got married in Greece, but when we returned home we threw a wedding party at The Bear Hotel in Cowbridge with the help of The Boutique Disco. I really cannot recommend Grant highly enough!

He really stood out for us as one of our favourite wedding vendors because not only did he provide us with a fantastic evening party where everyone was up on the dance floor, he also provided the lighting, captured some wonderful photos and put together a video of the highlights of night for us….which I must confess I have watched again and again!

Grant is really professional and will go the extra mile to ensure you have a memorable night. My husband and I are really into our music and he took account of our tastes as well as our guests and got everybody dancing! The evening went so quickly I didn’t even notice Grant running around taking beautiful relaxed photographs from the night of everyone having fun! It’s great to have a music and photography package all in one and all of our guests were really impressed with The Boutique Disco :)

Wedding planning

Why she stood out:

Marina was amazing. I bumped into her at a networking event and she caught us around a time where we were just starting to get things going on the planning/bookings front, but we were quite busy with our careers at the time, and so we were worried that we’d let the wedding planning slide if we didn’t get help.

Almost immediately, she pretty much paid for herself. Before finalising a wedding band ourselves, she found one for us that we preferred for £500 cheaper. So not only was she pretty much free (because she paid for herself) and even saved us some money overall, she took the load off by finding and recommending trusted vendors for us.

Then on the day itself, she was a star. I was a little unwell in the morning (mostly due to a hangover, no thanks to an usher who kept buying me drinks!) and with Emma tied up with getting ready, she was able to assist the best man and ushers with getting everything ready for the ceremony.

It’s my understanding that she’s now in the wedding supplies rental business (and that she might’ve stopped doing wedding planning). Her new site is www.pistachioinc.co.uk

Steve & Emma’s photos were provided with thanks to Lee Dare Photography.

What do they do

Wedding venue

Why it stood out:

The King Arthur Hotel was already familiar to my husband and I when we viewed it as a potential wedding venue, having both grown up in the local area. The venue itself was exactly what we wanted but what really made us sign on the dotted line was the staff and the package which included a fantastic tailored menu. The team was so helpful throughout the entire process and, more importantly, they really made us aware of the fact that they understood the stress of trying to organise what is essentially a weekend away for over 100 people but without being condescending or rude!

We booked only 6 months prior to our wedding date and never felt rushed or that anything was out of hand. We felt that they noted our relaxed style as a couple and tailored their work to suit us.

On the day, the fact that they had talked us through what would happen really helped, as did the calm presence of Rhian, our planner, and the glass of iced water that seemed to appear in your hand before you even knew you needed it! The best part was when the head fell off the groom (on the cake-topper, I should note!) and Rhian came straight to us and let us know, having already realised how funny we would find it and also having already fixed it.

Happy Bride and Groom, happy guests and the best scenery in the world – what more could you ask for? :)

Past Bride Top Vendor Choice: Caerphilly Castle

Caerphilly Castle

What do they do

Wedding venue

Why it stood out:

1- Appearance. OMG, I mean, it’s a CASTLE. What more could you want? The fact that the battlements are a bit of a ruin only makes it more medieval and beautiful, and when the sun shines on the moat the water looks deep blue and a bit magical. It’s the second largest castle in Europe and it is very easy to imagine that it must have been quite the fortress in its time.

The color of the stonework is stunning and the Great Hall, where weddings happen, is imposing and very grand. I felt like a Princess and several children of the guests asked if Caerphilly was my Castle. I had no hesitation in confirming that!! There are also great photo opportunities in and around the Bailey area of the Castle walls, like the tower tops and also the large oak doors at the entrance.

2- Price. Cheaper than Cardiff Castle and you may gain access as early as 9am if you need to, to get in all your flowers etc. You do have to obtain your own public liability insurance but this is straight forward and the Castle staff will help you if you need them to.

3. Staff etc. The staff were seriously very helpful with all aspects of my wedding. On the day they were so friendly and they provided two stewards to herd guests and help give out info etc. They helped the event feel very fluid and worked in tandem with the caterers to ensure everything ran smoothly.

4. Location. It is literally a stone’s throw from Caerphilly town centre and within easy reach of the station, or a short drive from Cardiff, where I live.
