Hannah from Rocksalt Photography has recently branched into filming as well. You may remember we showed you Ed and welsh bride Jo’s engagement shoot by Rocksalt Photography back last month. Well here you have a lovely little addition to see how it all worked out in the form of a rather lovely video, plus another sneaky look at Hannah’s work.
So without further ado, I will hand over to the gorgeous girl herself to tell you all about it……..
Wedding Suppliers: Rocksalt Photography and Videography
I never expected to fall in love with film making the way I have. Thank you so much to that cheeky pair who asked if I could film their wedding, I’ll be forever grateful.
How and when did you start the videography side of Rocksalt?
One of the best parts of being a wedding photographer is getting to know my clients and in a lot of cases having a friendship for life. So a lot of my couples feel that they can be a little bit cheeky and ask me anything ;)
Anyway when a couple asked if I could do a wedding film as well as their stills I recoiled into my chair and said ‘God no!’ Imagine the stress!
But I went away and thought, well, why not? I have a bit of film training, I wouldn’t need any new equipment so maybe I could give it a shot.
I went to see Camera Hannah for a chat, she has added film packages alongside her photography successfully and after having a good chat with her I decided that I would give it a go.
This wedding season I had done a few films, but my first was November 2015.
I arrived at the wedding with no plans to film, but thought why the hell not?….. and thats where it all started.
How would you describe your style?
I make short 4/5 minute films of your wedding. It’s great to see a film that marries up with the photography. Everything just seems to fit.
My style, is unobtrusive – I’m there to capture your day. Not direct it.
I try to be as invisible as possible documenting those real moments – happy, fun and relaxed.
Yes, of course I pose a few things up to get those epic dramatic shots. They just have to be done!
What’s the best bit about being a part of the wedding industry?
I love being part of the wedding industry. I’ve met so many different talented and lovely people along the way and have formed strong business and social friendships! (the odd gin may have been consumed at a few ‘networking lunches’! )
The best thing though……(I know it sounds cheesy)…..My clients. I really am so blessed by the people I get to work with – you all ROCK!
Have you had any hairy moments?
Nothing major really…..(touch wood) I smashed a lens at a wedding once lying down on a stone beach, but I had a back up!
Have you noticed any emerging trends specific to your field emerging for 2016/2017?
Smoke bombs and drones seemed to have featured a lot this year……next year, I have had a couple enquire about me shooting their entire wedding on film -old skool! So maybe we’re going full circle!
Do you have any advice for couples choosing a videographer for their big day?
People seem to be more self conscious when being filmed, I totally understand! But believe me, just be yourselves and embrace it. You’re beautilicious.

North Wales Styled Shoot by Tony Fanning
A little while ago I brought together some of the best wedding suppliers in North Wales for a bit of a jolly, and to photograph two gorgeous ‘brides’ in the stunning location that is Caer Rhun Hall.
I chose the end of April to do this shoot as we had the best chance of half decent weather. As it turned out it was the coldest it has been for ages. I cannot remember seeing models shivering quite so much. I really do have to thank them both for not throwing a diva strop and walking off.
I carefully chose the two models, Iwanted two different looks for the dresses I had chosen from Wedding Belles in Llanfair PG on Anglesey. I photographed Leanne’s wedding last year in Bryn Eisteddfod so I new I wanted her to be the ‘girl next door’ look the tea-length wedding dress. Jen was new to me but as soon as I saw a photo of her I new she would be perfect for the full length fitted wedding dress. Both of them absolutely rocked it!
Obviously we couldn’t do a shoot like this without immaculate hair and makeup. I asked Julia Nicholls Creative hair and Kay Evans make up artist along as I have worked with both of them before and I know their work is always amazing.
What do you need to finish off a bridal look? Flowers! I asked Sarah from Scent with love to come up with something and she certainly did not disappoint. We had a variety of bouquets to work with with, and always they were flawless.
We needed some behind the scenes video as well so Geoff from Tudno TV did his thing for us. You can check out his short video HERE.
Last but not least we had a visit from Nelly the vintage VW camper. Kindly bought along by Nelly-Weds. Nelly looked fantastic in the sunlight in front of Caer Rhun hall.
Thanks so much to all the suppliers who came along and contributed to this wonderful day. I can’t thank them enough.
I must not forget the very trusting ladies who were kind enough to lend me three pairs of Irregular Choice shoes for the shoot. I know girls like shoes, but it wasn’t until this shoot that I realised just how much girls LOVE their shoes. I knew it was a bit of an obsession but I was nicely warned to look after them with my life
You know that moment when you watch someones wedding film and rather than yawn you get goosebumps? Yeah… this is one of them! and you know when the guy that made the film happens to be really young and oozing a ridiculous amount of talent that it kind of annoys you (haha)… yeah…. Meet Ben Walton folks! He’s flipping awesome!
I’ve personally had the pleasure of working with Ben. We both shot a wedding together a few years back. I think he was half my age then (mannnn that makes me feel so old to type that!)
Anyhow, today, I want to share with you one BEAUTIFUL wedding film. Seriously, I shed a tear and think you might too. The Father of the Bride’s speech alone warrants a tissue. There is so much I love about this wedding. I’m just gutted I didn’t get to photograph it ~ Maria
Adam & Zoe’s Welsh Seaside Wedding
Adam & Zoë’s wedding was set on the coast in the seaside town of Aberystwyth. Preperations & ceremony took place in the town followed by the reception slightly set back off the coast at Nanteos Mansion. A great venue, surrounded by fields, rolling hills & sheep.
Who out there is looking for some wedding inspiration…. When I saw this styled shoot I fell in love. With the beautiful backdrop of Tros yr Afon and some amazing suppliers how could we not share this with you. They … Continue reading →
