High Street Fashion in the 2015 Colour of the Year

Colour experts Pantone have named their colour of the year for 2015 as Marsala, they describe it as “a naturally robust and earthy wine red”. This colour will suit pretty much every skin tone so is perfect for bridesmaids, but now that we are moving into spring/summer I’m not sure how easy it will be to find.

Pantone also say “This highly varietal shade combines dramatically with neutrals, including warmer taupes and grays. Because of its burnished undertones, sultry Marsala is highly compatible with amber, umber and golden yellows, greens in both turquoise and teal, and blues in the more vibrant range.”

With all of this in mind I am making it my mission to find some beautiful high street fashions suitable for savvy guests and en trend bridesmaids.

High Tea at The Deck

We recently posted this interview with Debs from The Deck Coffee House and Cakery in Cardiff Bay. Obviously we had to try it out first to make sure it was a high enough standard for our readers ;) Charlie, Kate, Jemma and Maria went for High Tea at The Deck, Charlie is here to tell you all about it and all images in this post are by Maria Farrelly008

Being invited to afternoon or high tea is one of my favourite things! It was one of the things I did on my amazing hen weekend and I would do it every weekend if I could. I love sandwiches, I love tea, and who doesn’t love cake?! High tea at The Deck was possibly the best high tea I have ever taken, when we arrived the lovely Debs greeted us with some pink lemonade, a laid table, and told us we had all afternoon with endless pots of tea. Heaven!

Then Debs brought out the food! 012

We all had plenty of sandwiches, which isn’t always the case with high tea, and plenty of fillings – not just cucumber (which let’s face it, while being traditional and fairly yummy is not very exciting!). We had two scones each with plenty of fresh cream and jam, a cupcake each and plenty of fresh fruit. As if that wasn’t enough Debs also brought out two different types of brownie and there was a decadent chocolate and raspberry cake on the table! We were all in our element!

Debs came out to chat to us during our tea, she is so friendly and willing to help. Particularly in our debate over whether or not the jam goes onto the scone before the cream. Apparently there is fierce rivalry between Devon and Cornwall over this, Cornwall says jam first then cream, Devon prefers to start with cream and add the jam on top. Which do you prefer?! Debs also gave us some tips on etiquette, including the rule that sticking your pinky in the air is bad manners. Here we are trying our hardest to be polite!

I don’t think Jemma quite managed it!

The Deck is also the home of the amazing Love, Peace and Cupcake which explains why the cakes were just so damn delicious. It is ideal for hen parties, wedmin meetings with the bridesmaids, a treat for the mums or even your wedding reception. Debs held hers there, she tells us all about her wedding here.

All four of us had an amazing time and would highly recommend it, in fact I am planning to take my mum there ASAP. At only £14 a head you really can’t go wrong, it is such value for money and we even ended up taking doggy bags home! It was a real treat, they also do gift vouchers so if you are stuck for a Christmas present give Debs a shout! It won’t disappoint. Debs made us feel so welcome, in the words of our Homemade bride Kate “It is the perfect place to lose an afternoon and gain a pound or two” also she really does make the best cupcakes!

Featured Vendor: Eightwood Studios

This week we have a beautiful wedding film brought to you by Eightwood Studios.

Nia & Philip got married in Tonypandy at Nia’s family’s local church.  Their reception was held at St Donat’s Castle and Eightwood were on hand to capture the day. Nia & Philip are both solicitors, having met at their firm’s pre-training team-building week Nia refused to give Philip her phone number saying she couldn’t remember it but he persisted through Facebook and it paid off! Philip surprised Nia on the day of the wedding by joining the band for one number as he is a keen drummer and was in a band as a teenager.

We asked Laura from Eightwood to tell us a little bit more about what they can offer.

Eight Wood Studios utilises their background in award-winning music video direction/production, photography, tour videography and children’s TV production to create artistic, reportage style wedding films with shallow depth of focus filming technique.

We are made up of Andy & Laura and provide UK & Destination coverage, focusing on South Wales and South-West England.

We always favour natural over posed and can’t think of anything worse than staging a moment or directing you on a day when you should just live it! We like to capture those precious moments when the couple (& guests!) don’t even realise the cameras are rolling.

We provide an extensive film package, providing couples with three lengths of finely edited films:

  1. The Feature Film (approx. 35-60 minutes of finely edited footage on top of full ceremony & speeches, totalling on average 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes)
  2. A re-edited Highlights Film with audio snippets (approx. 20-30 minutes)
  3. The Trailer (examples of which are on our website)

You are then given three copies on DVD and a free Blu-ray to future proof the couple’s film. We also provide a USB stick with computer & smart phone versions of the highlights & trailer as part of our packages.

Our principle from day one of our company has been ‘what would we want from a Wedding Videography package’, and it has been our goal to provide just that to our couples.

Thank you Laura! We hope you all enjoyed the video.
