A Styled Cariad shoot

All images in this post were taken by our award winning wedding photographer Maria Farrelly.  Maria is also the creator of Cwtch the Bride and is based in Newport. She photographs all over the UK and abroad and you can see all posts featuring her photography here.

You may remember last month we featured the wonderful Cariad Canvas.

They invited us along to a secret location in South Wales to view their fabulous Bell Tents and Wedding Tipis, all dressed in their finery!

Never one to miss an opportunity and having already seen how lovely they looked on their website, Maria suggested the idea of creating a ‘styled shoot’. This would involve bringing together a team of welsh wedding suppliers that would compliment each other and then photographing everything beautifully.  Anna (the owner of Cariad Canvas) loved the idea and we thought it would be a great way for you (our readers) to see just how talented your local suppliers are!

So we made a few calls, sent a few emails and a few days later, a team was born lol.

A huge thanks to everyone that took part in this shoot. It was so much fun and we look forward to working with more welsh suppliers on shoots like this in the future:

A special thanks also goes out to our lovely Charlie and her friend Agata for modelling those gorgeous gowns for us.

Here’s what Charlie had to say about the shoot:

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be involved in a photo shoot with Maria and several other wedding suppliers, all I knew beforehand was that it would involve a tipi and getting dressed up in wedding dresses in a secret location- very exciting! Maria picked up me and my friend Agata and drove us to the secret location in Carmarthen where the tipis and bell tents were set up, the place looked amazing and we were so impressed with the décor inside the “tents”. First of all we had our hair and make-up done by Kate Petersen, there weren’t any mirrors inside the yurt so it was strange having no idea what I looked like, thank goodness for iPhones! Next it was time to get dressed up, having not tried on many wedding dresses before choosing mine I was so excited about this! I got to wear three dresses in total and I can’t count how many hairpieces and veils I wore! The whole thing only took a few hours and Agata and I both had a great time, all of the suppliers involved were great and we had a brilliant day, and not just because of all of the ice cream that was being handed out!

I think the experience was completely different for me than it was for Agata, for a start she had never tried on a wedding dress before and had never had a shoot with a professional photographer, whereas my engagement shoot did prepare me for being in front of the camera. I know that Agata was nervous beforehand but afterwards she had this to say: “It was a lovely day- the set up was amazing and very professional, and I had such a good time getting dressed up! It was the first time I’d had proper make-up and hair styling, Kate the make-up artist did a great job and so did Maria. Thank you so much to everyone who was involved!” I think it’s fair to say she enjoyed it! I really would like to echo those words, the whole experience was so much fun and despite the cold I didn’t want it to end, the dresses were beautiful, the hair and make-up made me feel like a real model (or bride!) and Maria is great at direction and getting people to relax in front of the camera. We both love the finished images so much; I’m just trying to decide if it would be weird to have photos of me in a wedding dress that’s not mine around the house!

Thanks Charlie!

We are planning to organise more styled shoots throughout the year, using different suppliers all across Wales. If you’d like to get involved or have an idea, email us at info@cwtchthebride.com
